Sachsenhausen was a Nazi concentration camp in Oranienburg, 35 kilometres (22 miles) north of Berlin, Germany, used primarily for political prisoners from 1936 to the end of the Third Reich in May 1945. After World War II, when Oranienburg was in the Soviet Occupation Zone, the structure was used as an NKVD special camp until 1950. Executions took place at Sachsenhausen, especially of Soviet prisoners of war. 30,000 inmates died there from exhaustion, disease, malnutrition, pneumonia, etc. The remaining buildings and grounds are now open to the public as a museum.

  • Wall mural showing WW2 bombing targets in what is now an overgrown, mildew-ridden farm shack in woodland at Seething, Norfolk England. Seething is a former Royal Air Force station, assigned to the 448th Bombardment Group (Heavy) flying B-24 Liberators as part of the Eighth Air Force's strategic bombing campaign. The group enered combat on 22 December 1943, and until April 1945 served primarily as a strategic bombardment organization, hitting such targets as aircraft factories in Gotha, ball-bearing plants in Berlin, an airfield at Hanau, U-boat facilities at Kiel, a chemical plant at Ludwigshafen, synthetic oil refineries at Politz, aircraft engine plants at Rostock, marshalling yards at Cologne, and a Buzz-bomb assembly plant at Fallersleben. Some of these buildings are in a reasonable condition, although they are derelict and overgrown.

  • Scale model of world's tallest man Robert Pershing Wadlow in London street with similar-looking man eating junk food...Robert Pershing Wadlow (February 22, 1918 - July 15, 1940) is the tallest person in history. He reached 8 ft 11.1 in (2.72 m)[2][3] in height and weighed 485 lb (220 kg) at his death at age 22. His great size and his continued growth in adulthood was due to hypertrophy of his pituitary gland which results in an abnormally high level of human growth hormone. He showed no indication of an end to his growth even at the time of his death.

  • A newly-recruited Nepali boy is about to leave his homeland for the UK, where the British army is to make him a fully-trained soldier in the Gurkha Regiment. Daubed with saffron and paint, the sign of good luck on a journey to come, he stands with absolute pride with garlands of fresh flowers draped around his neck by well-wishing relatives before they wave good bye to their son or brother for his two years absence away from home. Some 60,000 young Nepalese boys aged between 17 - 22 (or 25 for those educated enough to become clerks or communications specialists) report to designated recruiting stations in the hills each November, most living from altitudes ranging from 4,000 - 12,000 feet. After initial selection, 7,000 are accepted for further tests from which 700 are sent down here to Pokhara in the shadow of the Himalayas. Only 160 of the best boys succeed in the flight to the UK. The Gurkhas training wing in Nepal has been supplying youth for the British army since the Indian Mutiny of 1857.
