They cannot otherwise see over the walls of foliage, so tall is the labyrinth of twisty pathways of green foliage. Made up of more than 16,000 English Yews, Longleat's spectacular hedge maze - the world's largest - was first laid out in 1975 by the designer Greg Bright. The Maze covers an area of around 1.48 acres (0.6 hectares) with a total pathway length of 1.69 miles (2.72 kilometres). Unlike most other conventional mazes it's actually three-dimensional.

  • Bald-headed men seemingly clash in a shaft of early spring light in a side street in the capital's financial district. This is Lombard Street, originally a piece of land granted by King Edward I to goldsmiths from the part of northern Italy known as Lombardy (larger than the modern region of Lombardy). It is a narrow and usually dark sidestreet near the Bank of England in the heart of what is called the Square Mile - the inner-part and oldest quarter of London occupied first by the Romans 2,000 years ago. Nowadays the City of London is home to banks and financial institutions but also with a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000.

  • Ostrich farmer Robert Bailey with some of his self-reared birds and one of the giant eggs on his farm near Chepstow, Wales. ..Rearing these birds is a specialist and very expensive business but Ostrich meat is a South African delicacy, used for Biltong. Nutritionists promote it as a more healthy alternative because it is higher in protein and lower in fat and cholesterol. An ostrich lays an egg every other day, of which 40 to 80% are fertile. In the wild there is a 95% failure rate but using an incubator like this almost guarantees total success. Its latin name, 'Struthio camelus', is the largest of living birds with some males reaching a height of 8 ft (244 cm) and weighing 200 to 300 lb (90-135 kg). In the wild, the polygamous male has from two to six females in his flock. The cock scoops out a hollow for the eggs, which weigh nearly 3 lb (1.35 kg) each. One of the females incubates the eggs during the day, and the cock takes over at night. On the savannah they can run at 40mph (64 kph) for 10 hours though their top speed can reach 80mph. During the 19th-century vogue for ostrich plumes, farms were established in South Africa and later in North America, Australia, and Europe; after World War I fashions changed and the industry collapsed.

  • Usually played in pairs for morning and evenings calls to prayer, preludes, and processions, two western nuns following Tibetan-Buddhism play their Rag-Dung (brass trumpets) in a garden at the Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery and Tibetan Centre in Eskdalemuir, Scotland. One nun looks across to check finger positions of her fellow-player and they are sat cross-legged on the lush grass surrounded with flowers and tall plants. The Rag-Dung is the most spectacular of Tibetan ritual copper horns and some are up to twenty feet long. With a deeply resonant sound it is relatively easy to play. Those following this branch of Buddhism arrive in the Scottish wilderness for isolated Retreat periods, for short-term spiritual relaxation or to follow Tibetan teaching methods for discovering inner-peace, through prayer and meditation.

  • A holy Sadhu man attracts a crowd on the Maidan in central Calcutta, India. Near some ballustrades built by the British during the last years of the Raj, the man is leaning forward on his knees and his head is buried in gravel. Practicing Tapas or Niyamas, is one form of Austerity that holy men like this perform to cleanse themselves of bad thoughts. It is a conservation of energy; an increase of power in the system by sense control; a process of positive-thought, self-imposed hardships and inner-strength - all to gain a higher being for oneself. They might stand in cold water in winter, stand on or bury their heads in earth. Niyamas also breeds non-violence, truthfullness, non-stealing, moderation, non-possessiveness, purity, contentment, discipline, study and surrender.

We see coconuts piled on the ground and women carrying sacks on their heads while others stand around them awaiting trade. Above them is the huge British engineering of the bridge which stretches across the water towards the city beyond. The bridge is one of three on the Hooghly River and is a famous symbol of Kolkata and West Bengal. Bearing the daily weight of approximately 150,000 vehicles and 4,000,000 pedestrians. It is one of the longest bridges of its type in the world. The Hooghly River is an approximately 260 km long distributary of the Ganges River and this bridge is one of the finest cantilever bridges in the world.

After a hard day's fishing he gazes forward to open sea where an almost uninterrupted view of sea and horizon is seen beyond except for a small island is faintly in view. Even small remote atoll communites in the Maldives have strong phone signals and many also have good Wi-Fi connections. He and his crew have been catching Yellow Fin Tuna in the seas north of the capital Male in this Islamic Republic. Their catch is for export to the EU and in particular, the UK's supermarkets. • "Then raindrops fell on my head." Looking over the shoulder as a mother pours bath water from a toy seive on to the head of her five month-old baby daughter. The infant looks unsure but otherwise spellbound as the droplets fall, watching them leaving the pot to feel them trickling down. We see the child's trust for her mother and imagine her fascination with tumbling liquid, the feel of it touching her skin. This water is shallow, a child can drown in an inch of water so the mum is supporting the baby's head around the neck in the correct manner. This is from a documentary series of pictures about the first year of the photographer's first child Ella. Accompanied by personal reflections and references from various nursery rhymes, this work describes his wife Lynda's journey from expectant to actual motherhood and for Ella - from new-born to one year-old.

  • The rocky coastline is at Dinas Head in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Seen from high up on the cliff top as a late sun plays across the grasses and sandstone headland. At 463 feet in height, the Dinas Head cliffs provide excellent views across Fishguard Bay to the south and Newport Bay to the north. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is the first National Trail in Wales. Opened in 1970, the path is almost entirely contained within the boundaries of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park that takes in 17 Sites of Scientific Interest (SSSI), two nature reserves, and Wales' only marine nature reserve. The cliff tops offer wonderful expanses of wildflowers in Spring (April and May are best). Wide variety of birds nest along the cliffs, and grey seals can often be seen in the water below.
