  • A Nepali family consisting of parents and young children are viewed outside their home in the central region of the Himalayan mountain kingdom. 8 children and 3 adults are near a dry stone wall in a foothill dwelling near the town of Gorkha where the British army traditionally find young men for the Gurkha regiment (as thay have done since 1857). The family are wearing clean clothes with bright colours and appear healthy despite this country - and especially for those living at altitude - being one of the world's poorest. The prospects for these children may mean they will in future try to seek work in the cities like Kathmandu rather than face a lifetime's struggle in local agriculture. Their supplies and contact with the outside world comes up from tracks of boulders and stone along which either men or yaks carry up food for basic survival and luxury goods.

  • Beneath a huge banner that hangs from the exterior wall of the Ikea store in Croydon, South London adults await their partners to emerge from their shopping expeditions by the childrens' playground where a climbing frame and wood-chip surface protects young bodies from injury. The poster's message is simple and clear: That their customers and especially children, are our most important assets - our responsibility to protect their safety and well-being. Strong corporate Ikea colours are dominant, their well-known yellow and blue are known throughout Europe as well as the added banner in red. The fonts are in block capitals and possibly easy for young readers too to understand.

  • A schoolboy of Afro-Caribbean descent stands looking confused on a platform at Victoria mainline station in central London. The young lad looks smart in a new school uniform of cap, blazer, long trousers and polished black shoes. We might guess that it is the start of a new academic year and that he is about to attend a new school for which he needs to take a train on his own. His mother and younger and older sister are also to the far right of the picture so he may go with his elder sibling carrying a multi-coloured umbrella and a bright blue briefcase containing his lunch and a few items needed for lessons. Surrounded by adult commuters, some of who look on with mild amusement, also make await their train from the city out of town. Mostly, people mind their own business and what is a special day for the boy will become a much-travelled route.

Stone lions, also called Shishi in Chinese, are often found in pairs in front of the gates of Chinese traditional buildings. Chinese guardian lions, known also as stone lions in Chinese art, are a common representation of the lion in pre-modern China. They are believed to have powerful mythic protective powers that has traditionally stood in front of Chinese Imperial palaces, Imperial tombs, government offices, temples, and the homes of government officials and the wealthy from the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220). Pairs of guardian lions are still common decorative and symbolic elements at the entrances to restaurants, hotels, supermarkets and other structures.

  • An adult business window displays the naughty underwear worn by five mannequin models of a Soho sex shop on Old Compton Street in London's West End. Tilted slightly to the left, we see the 5 models posing in various positions of suggestive stances, all demonstrating the shop's array of erotic clothing for the Good Time Girl! On the far right is the artwork of a topless woman, wearing only knee-length stockings. See from behind, the line-drawing of the female suggests a dancer on a Parisian stage act such as the Folies Bergere or Paradis Latin - variety performances for the male admirer. She looks over her left shoulder as if to wink in our direction, all part of the illusion of coquettish desire and greedy eroticism. Old Compton Street is known for cafes, bars and especially the gay, trans-gender scene and for sellers of erotic toy 'accessories'!

The volunteers and a council cleaner come every morning to clean-up the mess left by others which, they say, has got worse during the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown and now, the slow easing of health guidelines.

  • A child clings to the back of her mother's pouch while shopping at a street market in this highly-populated south-east Asian city, on 10th August 1994, in Macau, China. Macau is now administered by China as a Special Economic Region (SER), home to a population of mainland 95% Chinese, primarily Cantonese, Fujianese as well as some Hakka, Shanghainese and overseas Chinese immigrants from Southeast Asia and elsewhere. The remainder are of Portuguese or mixed Chinese-Portuguese ancestry, the so-called Macanese, as well as several thousand Filipino and Thai nationals. The official languages are Portuguese and Chinese.

  • A young boy looks carefully at the many saucy postcards on sale outside a seaside shop, on 19th July 1993, in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England. Telling jokes to send back to friends and family, they using cartoon characters of buxom women, hen-pecked husbands or sexually-frustrated young men, the humour is bawdy and cheeky - the epitome of seaside holiday kitsch. The best-known saucy seaside postcards were created by Bamforths (founded 1870) and despite the decline in popularity of postcards that are overtly tacky, postcards continue to be a significant economic and cultural aspect of British seaside tourism. In the 1950s, Bamforth postcards were among the most popular of the 18 million items purchased at British resorts.

  • British schoolchildren on a daytrip to the capital enjoy a chance encounter with guardsmen at Horseguards on London's Whitehall. Gathering around the two troops, they talk to the caucasian man rather than the smaller man of afro-caribbean descent, both wearing the scarlet uniform tunics of the British Household Cavalry. This regiment is classed as a corps in its own right, and consists of two regiments: Life Guards (British Army) and the Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons). They are the senior regular regiments in the British Army, with traditions dating from 1660.

  • An old man holds a young child near their home in the central region of the Himalayan mountain kingdom of Nepal. We see the dark skin of this working man in a foothill dwelling near the town of Gorkha where the British army traditionally find young men for the Gurkha regiment (as thay have done since 1857). The prospects for the child may mean it will in future try to seek work in the cities like Kathmandu rather than face a lifetime's struggle in local agriculture. Their supplies and contact with the outside world comes up from tracks of boulders and stone along which either men or yaks carry up food for basic survival and luxury goods.

  • On stage, a beautiful topless dancer with a gentleman admirer during a variety show at the famous Parisian cabaret company Paradis Latin, Paris France. In front of glittery stars, the two ladies of the night are dressed in satin stockings and suspenders, flirting with this male dressed in top hat and tails, holding the hand of one lady and the about to kiss the cheek of the other, all the time lit with stage spotlights and the silhouetted heads of the front row audience at the bottom of the picture. The two girls appear to be twins but are probably wearing blonde wigs to make them look like a male 'Gentlemen prefer blondes' fantasy. (From a story about travelling through 6 European countries by coach in 7 days).
