  • A crowd of Londoners laugh during an afternoon's Punch and Judy show at The Lambeth Show in Brockwell Park, Herne Hill, England. Children of all ages along with parents grin at the out-of-sight puppet entertainment during this public festival of amusements and stalls in London's inner-city. Only one young girl sits unimpressed at the standard of comedy. She sits with her mother looking serious while the kids nearby roar with laughter - hugely involved with the show. From a personal documentary project entitled "Next of Kin" about the photographer's two children's early years spent in parallel universes. Model released.

  • An English caucasian lady smiles at something of interest to the viewer's right. She is a wrinkled female in her sixties, a healthy person with her own original teeth and whose untidy hair is greying and whose skin is slightly tanned under a summer sun. She wears a blue shirt with a wide collar, fashionable in the 1980s (eighties) and has a bemused, attentive expression as if entertained by something of humour out of frame. This is someone's mother and grandmother, at an age when her hard-working life is nearly over and her pension is hopefully covering her everyday needs.

  • Looking down on them from above, we see a brother and sister play with free airline blindfolds while in their parents' bed at the family home in South London. Pretending to be blind, they giggle at this hilarious and childish game as if acting out the speak and see no evil. From a personal documentary project entitled "Next of Kin" about the photographer's two children's early years spent in parallel universes. Model released.

  • A rather rotund man wearing a flat cap, a checked shirt under braces that keep his ample trousers up above his fat tummy, affectionately tickled his pet dog, a Whippet ,who stands still with two paws on his master's large leg. It is a bright day on the beach at Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, England. Bathers are running on the sand in the background and the man and his dog are content to watch the world go by from their promenade bench. Their is a great deal of trust and love these two have for each other - the gentleman having brought his dog on holiday to the seaside with him, rather than leave him with friends or in kennels. The dog is healthy, lithe and obviously has great speed in those muscular legs, vastly different to the man, whose frame is heavy and slow.

  • Seen through the window of an amusement arcade in London's Gerrard Street, Chinatown, we see the colourful neon lights that garishly shine from behind the glass. Beyond is the hustle and bustle of daily life in this famous street of London's Chinese community. We are slightly confused as to what is inside and what is out. We see the Georgian architecture reflected from behind and to the left is a slot-machine game called Hi-Roller which suggests the use of dice in this gambling activity. Passers-by can be seen outside, making their way past the many restaurants and businesses. In the middle of the scene is a yellow sign positioned by the Metropolitan Police warning against pickpockets as this area of the West End is known for petty crime.

  • Margaret Thatcher plays up to the media at a North London school in her own constituency of Finchley during the 1992 general election. Although Thatcher had already resigned as Prime Minister in November 1990, John Major won the ensuing leadership election later that year. Photographers and cameramen surround the former-Prime Minister who is wearing a purple suit and matching broach. She is mid-sentence and has found something amusing to respond to the chants of the media. We see cameras, sound booms and flashes all prepared to photograph this famous statesman including Tom Stoddart who is making eye-contact with the viewer.

  • Two children ride a merry-go-round on the sea front at Southport, Merseyside, northern England. Hanging on to the carousel's horse, the youngest child is a boy who grips the pole as he whizzes through along while an older girl who is possibly his sister, leans forward as she enjoys the circular speed. The background blurs but we see the bright lights above the pier's amusement arcade entrance (the second longest pier in the UK) but it is a chilly winter, an off-season day with few people about on this chilly day nearing Christmas.

  • A class of schoolboys accompanied by their teachers play on the shingle at the water's edge in the south coast seaside town of Brighton. The East Pier is resplendent with amusement rides and attractions that populate its long structure, jutting out into the calm English Channel beyond which is the French coast further south. The children are still in their school shirts, shorts and ties but have taken off their shoes and socks to frolic and enjoy some precious fresh-air and the freedom that childhood brings. According to British legal requirements, schoolchildren on away day visits must have accompanying adults with a ratio of 1:xx though it appears this group's quota is less with two teachers per 28 boys.

  • Deep in the West Sussex countryside are a group of Territorial Army soldiers. They have stopped in a remote lane to consult their Ordnance Survey maps during a day of learning to navigate with maps and compasses. Over a weekend learn the skills needed to be part-time army volunteers known as the TA and have far to go. Together they look at maps and argue where they should go next. Looking on with mild amusement is their senior officer who accompanies them to assess their leadership skills and initiative. Behind them a road sign tells them the road ahead is a dead end to traffic. It is a very English summer landscape of lush green vegetation and grasses. The TA work as part of Britain's reserve land forces. Together with the Regular Army they provide support at home and overseas including Iraq and Afghanistan. .

Stretching to climb the rock, the lad of 10 uses his hand and walking stick to balance as he puts a boot higher to gain a sure footing. There is ample covering of moss and lichen on the primeval landscape making it hazardous to conquer but the boy stumbles over the terrain and continues his walk through this beautiful wilderness. The boy is alone in the picture though accompanied by his family but he seems to mange on his own, capable of finding his own limits of endurance and confidence. Geologically, the Black Forest consists of a cover of sandstone on top of a core of gneiss. During the last glacial period, the Würm glaciation, the Black Forest was covered by glaciers.

Wearing his bathing costume, a young adventurer clambers over rocks in the Gross Enz river in Germany's Black Forest. The lad of 10 crouches to better balance himself, carefully placing his bare feet on the slippery rock's surface as he emerges from the chilly mountain water. It is high summer and we can see the boy backlit by the glare of strong sunlight in the background. The Gross Enz river rises in Enzklosterle in Baden-Württemberg and is an eventual tributary of the Neckar. Geologically, the Black Forest consists of a cover of sandstone on top of a core of gneiss. • A menswear shop mannequin lies on the ground of the store at Liverpool Street, days after a terrorist bomb in nearbny Bishopsgate. Crowds of bargain hunters queue outside to buy damaged stock after the blast. Everything is reduced by up to 75% off this shop and others like it are popular as Londoners make the best of troubled times again. The Irish Republican Army (IRA) exploded a truck bomb on Bishopsgate. Buildings up to 500 metres away were damaged with one and a half million square feet (140,000 m) of office space being affected and over 500 tonnes of glass broken. Repair costs reached approx £350 million. It was said that Roman remains could be viewed at the bottom of the pit the bomb created. One person was killed when the one ton fertiliser bomb detonated directly outside the medieval St Ethelburga's church.
