  • Banking slowly left over the agricultural Lincolnshire countryside are the elite 'Red Arrows', Britain's prestigious Royal Air Force aerobatic team, who have commenced an In-Season Practice (ISP) training flight near their base at RAF Scampton. They turn at a gentle angle trailing white organic smoke before reforming in front of a local crowd at the airfield and working through a 25-minute series of display manoeuvres that are loved by thousands at summer air shows. Their objective is to appear perfectly spaced from a ground perspective. Freshly-ploughed English fields with properties, roads and hedgerows are seen below. After some time off, spare days like this are used to hone their manual aerobatic and piloting skills before re-joining the air show circuit. Since 1965 they've flown over 4,000 shows in 52 countries.

  • Pigeon pest controller, Sue Van Vynck releases Harriet, her Harris Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus) to scare away the local pigeon population. The ancient sport of Falconry has become today's humane pest control of choice, particularly as costs falls. Once a pigeon population has been scared away, it requires only a token hawk presence to keep it away. Van Vynck Bird Control is a specialist company providing over 25 years, a range of environmental services dealing with nuisance bird management. They are pioneers of specialist techniques such as the use of predatory species (such as falconry) to displace and interrupt behavioural patterns as well as offering a complete range of physical deterrents. Here at Broadgate the nuisance was pigeons and Harriet leaves Sue's gloved hand to patrol the architecture of this 32 acres (129,499 m2) office and retail space.

  • We are looking upwards towards three converging pillars of the Cornhill Exchange building and beyond, to the famous Bank of England in the City Of London, the financial district, otherwise known as the Square Mile. Traffic leaves its light trails between the lens-distorted columns as it passes eastwards towards Bank Triangle, a busy intersection. It is early evening as the ambient light fades while artificial illumination becomes the dominant light-source. With such a wide-angle perspective the bank and its architecture looks powerful and influencial in the UK's economy. The dark pillars contrasting with the colourful (colorful) light emitted from this established Bank makes for a scene of stability and strength.

  • Looking upwards towards the back of a number 8 red London bus which passes the pillars of the famous Bank of England building at Cornhill in the City Of London, the financial district, otherwise known as the Square Mile. We see the Bank rising as an imposing classical structure. Its columns are converging because of wide-angle lens-distortion, giving us the image of strength, stability and influence in UK economics. The bus is a traditional design called a Routemaster which has been in service on the capital's roads since 1954 and is nowadays only seen on heritage routes. • At the height of financial uncertainty, we see from a low pavement angle investors queueing outside the Maddox Street branch of the troubled Northern Rock Bank, off Regent Street, Mayfair, in September 2007. Their hard-earned savings appear to be in jeopardy after the bank announced an emergency loan from the Bank of England. Despite reassurances from officials who insisted that the Bank which has £113bn in assets, was not in danger of going bust, concerned men and women wait in line, some with their faces on view and reading newspapers or more commonly, wishing to remain anonymous and keeping their backs to reporters and cameras. The rush of customers demanding their investments almost spelled the demise of the bank with over £2bn removed from accounts in a few days. Northern Rock struggled since money markets seized up over the summer. .

  • A young three year-old boy has his hair cut by his mother in the family South London home. Lifting his hair with her fingers, the mum snips with a pair of scissors. While lifting her left elbow to gain the right angle of her cutting, we see her holding a comb in her mouth. The boy's elder sister looks on offering unhelpful comments which will eventually lead to an exchange of unkind words between the siblings while their mother concentrates hard on not making a mess of the kid's haircut. From a personal documentary project entitled "Next of Kin" about the photographer's two children's early years spent in parallel universes. Model released.

  • Two young boys concentrate on piling plastic bottle crates on top of each other making towers that echo the tall Canary Wharf tower structure a mile away in the background at Dockland's area of East London. On the grassy bank at Mudchute, a city farm on London's Isle of Dogs, the pile of crates is untidy and unstable making them lean at odd angles making the boys hold on to their building projects. They are dressed for a summer afternoon's activity in a seemingly rural location but which is, in fact, an area of inner-city London.

  • Three young men are seen from a very low angle as they make arrangements with other friends to meet at the Spring Feria in Seville, Spain. Beneath dozens of colourful lights which hang from cables above their heads, two stand holding drinks while the third speaks into his mobile phone. They are all impeccably dressed in smart jackets and tasteful ties with one owning a carnation in his lapel. It is a lively event that Seville holds annually in the vast fairground area on the far bank of the Guadalquivir River. Rows of temporary marquee tents, or casetas, host families, corporations and friends into the late hours during the April Fair which begins begins two weeks after the Semana Santa, or Easter Holy Week in the Andalusian capital.

  • A flying helmet belonging to a member of the elite 'Red Arrows', Britain's prestigious Royal Air Force aerobatic team, is cradled in the highly-polished open Plexiglass canopy of a team Hawk jet aircraft. With the arrow pointing downwards we see it from below along with the airplane's red fuselage and the words Royal Air Force stencilled in blue lettering on the side within a white stripe. There are strong angles with clear blue space on the top right. The colours that dominate this image are red, white and blue - the colors of the Union Jack, United Kingdom's flag. This scene is at RAF Akrotiri, Cypus where the Red Arrows put the finishing touches to their display sequences before starting the gruelling air show calendar in the UK and Europe. The squadron represents all that is perfect with aerobatic flying, about teamwork and discipline.

  • A father supports his son on his shoulders as a giant four-engined airliner passes directly overhead, about to land at London's Heathrow airport, England. Seen from a low angle, we see the graphic cruciform shape of the aircraft as it screams past two powerful airfield landing lights that help guide arriving aircraft to the runway. The backlit scene is largely monochrome apart from the boys red t-shirt and yellow-faced watch which are lit by flash, underexposing the overcast sky. Prior to 9/11, British airport authorities and police tolerated plane spotters near runway fences but with heightened terrorist alerts, these enthusiasts are told to move on or face arrest. Picture from the 'Plane Pictures' project, a celebration of aviation aesthetics and flying culture, 100 years after the Wright brothers first 12 seconds/120 feet powered flight at Kitty Hawk,1903. .
