  • As a bus drives over London Bridge, a griffin statue marks the southern boundary between Southwark on the south side and the City of London beyond on the bridge. The City of London is a geographically-small City within Greater London, England. The City of London is the historic core of London from which, along with Westminster, the modern conurbation grew. The City's boundaries have remained constant since the Middle Ages but it is now only a tiny part of Greater London. The City of London is a major financial centre, often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 km) in area. London Bridge's history stretches back to the first crossing over Roman Londinium, close to this site and subsequent wooden and stone bridges have helped modern London become a financial success.

  • Emma and Martin are a young professional couple living in the experimental community village of Poundbury, Dorset, England. Sitting in their landscaped rear garden the married couple have their portrait taken against a high concrete wall that serves as their property's back boundary. The roofs of neighbouring homes appear over this partition and young tree saplings are fastened to a stake. Poundbury is the visionary model village that the Charles, Prince of Wales sought to develop in 1993 as a successful and pioneering town near Dorchester, built on land owned by his own Duchy of Cornwall, challenging otherwise poor post-war trends in town planning and to some extent following the New Urbanism concept from the US except that the design influences are European.

  • A pair of awkwardly splayed legs disappear into the cold, murky waters of the Serpentine Lake in London's Hyde Park. Having just dived head-first off a platform that juts out into the lake, the person is half in and half out and the splash is frozen in time. He or she is in incopetent diver with such ungainly plunge into the waters. It is otherwise a quiet moment. The water is largely undisturbed apart from the dive and buoy markers float to for a boundary line to keep rowing boats and bathers apart. This bathing area is where the normally busy Serpentine Swimming Club have the use of this Royal lake known as Lansbury's Lido. It is now normally open only in the summer, but one traditional event occurs each year on New Year's Day, when the ice is broken and brave bathers dive into the cold waters of the lake. The Serpentine will be used for the swimming leg of the triathlon at the London 2012 Olympics. The Serpentine gets its name from its supposedly snakelike, curving shape. It was formed in 1730 when Queen Caroline, wife of George II, ordered the damming of the River Westbourne and other natural ponds in Hyde Park. ..

  • Two children walk along a path between two dry stone walls in the countryside around the Yorkshire town of Settle. Striding between the boundaries of agricultural grazing land, whose trees and undergrowth has been cleared, the kids have come from a distant farmhouse which has recently lost its stock of sheep due to Foot and Mouth disease. Dry stone walls serve as boundaries and enclosures for farmers and land owners. Built by tradesmen called Wallers, a dying tradition and skill, they're constructed from stones without any mortar to bind them together. The stones must be carefully selected by shape to ensure that they have a large contact surface area with their neighbours and so do not slip. They are a legacy of the movement towards enclosure of common farming and grazing land as English society moved away from medieval feudalism. Model released.

  • In fine, late-summer weather, an eleven year-old girl gingerly steps over a stile on the coastal path at Carregwastad Point, near Strumble Head, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Steadying herself with a walking pole, she climbs over wearing trainers rather than stout walking boots as this path is gentle for younger outdoor enthusiasts. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is the first National Trail in Wales. Opened in 1970, the path is almost entirely contained within the boundaries of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park that takes in 17 Sites of Scientific Interest (SSSI), two nature reserves, and Wales' only marine nature reserve. The cliff tops offer wonderful expanses of wildflowers in Spring (April and May are best). Wide variety of birds nest along the cliffs, and grey seals can often be seen in the water below.

While stretching with his long sponge into the corner of this window, one worker on the left is wiping soapy liquid onto the grimy glass before cleaning it off with a squeegee.
