Afternoon sun filters through nearby trees and the man is wearing a simple, plain white shirt. He sits crossed-legs on this warm afternoon gazing to a point in the distance looking lonely and hopeful of meeting someone else, or maybe of events in a long life. His dog is the man's best friend and companion and he guards him with a strong hand as a master should.

  • Two friends of Hispanic-descent have stopped on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, Florida to talk with associates while sitting in their SUV 4x4 pick-up-style truck. The other young animal is being propped up by the car's driver, its belly visible to anyone leaning inside the car. Both dogs are albino-coloured with floppy ears and pink eyes while the two healthy men are dark-skinned and in good-humour, one wearing a singlet vest and prominent silver necklace and the other topless so warm is this summer day.

  • A lady and her pet green Iguanas stop walking along the surf in Miami Beach's coast for a moment to stand on the sand and kiss on the lips. Away from its proper habitat, this reptile looks comfortable in the hands of its affectionate mothering owner and in this warm climate. These exotic lizards' live in tropical rainforests, in lower altitudes near water sources, such as rivers or streams. They spend most of their time high in the forest canopy, about 40-50 feet above the ground. Iguanas are diurnal, awake during the day. They are also cold-blooded, so they do not produce their own body heat, so need warm temperatures to thrive. Many people in the United States and elsewhere want a green iguana for a pet, so there is a big demand for their capture.

  • A rather rotund man wearing a flat cap, a checked shirt under braces that keep his ample trousers up above his fat tummy, affectionately tickled his pet dog, a Whippet ,who stands still with two paws on his master's large leg. It is a bright day on the beach at Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, England. Bathers are running on the sand in the background and the man and his dog are content to watch the world go by from their promenade bench. Their is a great deal of trust and love these two have for each other - the gentleman having brought his dog on holiday to the seaside with him, rather than leave him with friends or in kennels. The dog is healthy, lithe and obviously has great speed in those muscular legs, vastly different to the man, whose frame is heavy and slow.

  • An elderly and eccentric couple sit on a park bench in the French Mediterranean resort of Juan-les-Pins near Antibes, with their own pet dog on a lead while watching an Afghan Hound which struts past in a showy manner. The shaggy Afghan's coat resembles the colour of the lady's own pet and the texture of her own coat. It is around mid-day and looks warm but the couple are dressed for deepest winter, oblivious to the warm sunshine. The hairy Afghan strides ceremoniously and with great style, while the small pooch on the peoples' lead looks nervous and uncomfortable. Juan-les-Pins is a town in the commune of Antibes, in the Alpes-Maritimes, in southeastern France, on the French Riviera (Côte d'Azur). .

  • An accumulation of badges show where a passenger on board a Heathrow Express train to Heathrow Airport has travelled to. Sewn onto the traveller's rucksack, the countries represented by these patches show a much-travelled young person who has amassed a collection of world air miles and travel experiences, with their national flags and emblems on display in a way that adventurers show their routes and wanderlust to others, perhaps as proof of a lifetime wandering the world's borders and airports. As each badge is added, it accounts for new travel companions and the hazards and joys of modern air travel. From writer Alain de Botton's book project "A Week at the Airport: A Heathrow Diary" (2009).

  • In the shadow of 1 Canada Square, the iconic Canary Wharf tower in London's Docklands stands as an icon for Thatcherite Britain when the good times, prosperity and economic upturns seemed unshakeable. Four work colleagues stand under a hot lunchtime sun during a summer heatwave. In their shirtsleeves the men each hold pints of refreshing lager, all having removed their dark jackets to enjoy the company of a flirtatious female who appears to be flirting with an older male companion. The sky is blue and the five are care-free to any future economic uncertainty.

  • Young woman withdraws cash from her local London branch of the Abbey National Building Society in 1989. With her finger almost touching the keypad, the lady and her companion are withdrawing cash from this hole in the wall after investing their funds in this branch of Britain's building society. Abbey National plc was a UK-based bank and former building society, which latterly traded under the Abbey brand name. It became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Spanish Santander Group in 2004, and was combined with the savings business of the former Bradford & Bingley in January 2010 to form Santander UK plc. Before the takeover, it was a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.
