  • Four ladies are seen from behind wearing Union Jack hats and waving Britain's national flag flags. It is the Queens' Golden Jubilee celebrations in London's Hyde Park and this scene of patriotic fun is common when crowds gather to acknowledge their monarch's long reign over her people. The women's faces are obscured but there is a blurred face of an unknown singer leading a concert of rousing songs - perhaps Rule Britannia - that excites the crowd still in the semi-darkness. It is the end of a long day of marches and appearances of Her Majesty on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, marking her 50th year on the throne.

  • The Italian operatic tenor Luciano Pavarotti performs in London during the free Party in the Park concert to celebrate his 30 years in opera. A crowd of 100,000 stood in the London rain to watch Pavarotti perform 20 arias by Verdi, Puccini, Bizet and Wagner. VIPs the Princess of Wales, Prime Minister John Major and Michael Caine got soaked in heavy rain along with everyone else sitting on the grass cowering beneath tarpaulins. We see the rotund Operatic maestro in full flow, belting out an aria while dressed in formal tails and wastecoat and holding his customary scarf that he uses to dab the sweat from his brow. Pavarotti helped bring an otherwise high-brow artform to the ordinary Man after the BBC used his rendition of Nessun Dorma to theme their World Cup TV coverage. This lead the way to Opera reaching the Common Man in Britain.

  • With his face reflected in the musical instrument's bell, a trombonist plays on stage with a jazz orchestra...The trombone is a musical instrument in the brass family. Like all brass instruments, sound is produced when the player's vibrating lips (embouchure) cause the air column inside the instrument to vibrate. The trombone is usually characterised by a telescopic slide with which the player varies the length of the tube to change pitches, although the valve trombone uses three valves like those on a trumpet. The word trombone derives from Italian tromba

  • Seen low from behind stage, a male voice choir are lined up to sing during their performance at an open-air temporary auditorium during the Lambeth Show, an inner-city cultural and family event held annually in Dulwich Park, a leafy suburb of South London. The choristers are dressed in white shirts which are untidily untucked from their dark trousers (pants). Their heads echo the purple, yellow and red spots from the overhead lights. The front of stage is covered by a curved ribbed roof structure that arches over the mens' heads. The singers look small in scale to the cavernous height of this ceiling, occupying a small percentage of the frame. We cannot see the choir's conductor, nor their audience but we get an impression of wide area in which to project their voices

As their friends look on, a fellow-player helps re-wrap the cello in a pink towel before the whole group re-assemble again to begin their evening journey home.
