  • As the UK's Conornavirus pandemic lockdown continues, but with travel restrictions and social distancing rules starting to ease after three months of closures and isolation, a boy walks past a billboard that has appeared across the capital, telling Londoners that Community is Strength and that staying together is best, while someone has added a more confusing message asking for others to save lives by spitting, a breach of pandemic health guidelines, on 9th June 2020, in south London, England.

  • A confusing pair of street signs showing two of the 71 Peachtree street and road names known in Atlanta. It is often joked that half of the streets in Atlanta are named Peachtree, and the other half have five names to make up for it. While "Peachtree" alone always refers to this street, there are 71 streets in Atlanta with a variant of "Peachtree" in their name. The first Peachtree was a Creek Indian village on the Chattahoochee River called Standing Peachtree. An army outpost built nearby took the name Fort Peachtree. From this has come a forest of Peachtrees. In Margaret Mitchell's epic Civil War romance Gone With the Wind, Scarlett O'Hara lives on various points of Peachtree Street along the novel.

  • A boy stands leaning on a hand rail near the top steps at Paignton sea front. At the bottom of the steps and floating face down in the clear, unpolluted water, his arms outstretched, is a diver wearing a wet suit who appears lifeless. It is a scene of ambiguity and the viewer might be confused over whether the diver is in fact dead. It looks as if the diver has drowned but he is only enjoying the buoyancy of the salt sea water. It is a sunny afternoon and the shadows of the steps' rail which zigzags down the concrete steps.

  • As afternoon light fades, we see an incongruous landscape of false forest trees amid an industrial airport lot. A supporting pillar from the hotel chain, Sofitel, a 605 bedroom, 27 suite and 45 meeting room accommodation and business hub, is situated at the Heathrow Airport 's Terminal 5 hotel. The woodland screen is hiding a wasteland of undeveloped land that may soon be another airport hotel but at the moment, it makes for a strange rural/urban scene where the viewer is not sure where reality stops and fiction takes over. From writer Alain de Botton's book project "A Week at the Airport: A Heathrow Diary" (2009). .

  • A detail of a shoe shop window that has closed for economic reasons. The window is in Victoria, the area of central London close to the mainline station and has been distempered with a mixture of white emulsion paint and water which prevents outsiders from peering inside, where stock may still be stored. Swirls from the cloth that wiped the paint across the glass has left a chaotic and confusing trace that makes it an almost abstract piece of art made by a disturbed artist. The word Shoe remains in bright red lettering and the single letter M afterwards. ..

  • A schoolboy of Afro-Caribbean descent stands looking confused on a platform at Victoria mainline station in central London. The young lad looks smart in a new school uniform of cap, blazer, long trousers and polished black shoes. We might guess that it is the start of a new academic year and that he is about to attend a new school for which he needs to take a train on his own. His mother and younger and older sister are also to the far right of the picture so he may go with his elder sibling carrying a multi-coloured umbrella and a bright blue briefcase containing his lunch and a few items needed for lessons. Surrounded by adult commuters, some of who look on with mild amusement, also make await their train from the city out of town. Mostly, people mind their own business and what is a special day for the boy will become a much-travelled route.

The people are either confidently pacing forward, standing still to seek guidance or simply spontaneously emerging from the shadows to a brighter future, a moment when freedom of choice is offered and the road ahead dictates their fate. It is a scene of corporate theatre and each employee will attend this fair where motivational pep-talks from executives, outside speakers and gurus will talk to large groups of personnel so their presence on this day away from the office is vital for the year's business ahead.
