  • A young woman wearing circular earphones passes beneath one of Tower Bridge's giant Victorian-designed suspension chains. The bridge is undergoing repairs, closed to traffic and disrupting this major Thames crossing and surrounding roads for the next three months.

  • The veteran BBC broadcaster Richard Baker (same name as the photographer of this picture) is seen in a Radio 3 studio in Langham Place, in central London. With glasses at hand and programme notes on his console with microphones pointing to his face, Baker is looking to camera with a pair of old-fashioned earphones around his neck. Richard Baker OBE (born 1925) started at the BBC as an announcer and presented many classical music programmes on both television  and radio, including for many years the annual live broadcast from the Last Night of the Proms but he's best known as a newsreader for the BBC News from 1954 to 1982 and the long-running Your Hundred Best Tunes for BBC Radio 2 on Sunday nights.

In front of her is a price list for this audio gadget. telling us that is costs £129.  The girl's hair is parted in the middle of her head and she wears a clip to keep her hair from her face. Over her shoulders is a display of headsets on a rack and in the background an older lady is also listening to music through another device.

  • City of London office workers pass one of a pair of leaning figures by Anthony Gormley entitled Parralel Field (1990), part of Sculpture in the City, a summer street art exhibition in the Square Mile, the capital's financial district. Antony Mark David Gormley, OBE, RA (born 30 August 1950) is a British sculptor. His best known works include the Angel of the North, a public sculpture near Newcastle upon Tyne in the North of England, commissioned in 1994 and erected in February 1998.
