  • London 8th September 2012: A fire breaks out in the empty buildings of a former primary school called Bessemer Grange, off Denmark Hill in the south London borough of Southwark. The former pre-school structure was eventually gutted after six fire engines and 30 firefighters  of the London Fire Brigade ?arrived to douse the flames which had already taken hold of the prefabricated structure. Bessemer Grange junior school and the current nursery occupies a location across the road and is on the former site of Victorian iron magnate, Henry Bessemer's mansion.

  • Banking hard right over the agricultural Lincolnshire countryside are the elite 'Red Arrows', Britain's prestigious Royal Air Force aerobatic team, who have commenced an In-Season Practice (ISP) training flight near their base at RAF Scampton. They turn at a ninety degree angle, two trailing white organic smoke before reforming in front of a local crowd at the airfield and working through a 25-minute series of display manoeuvres that are loved by thousands at summer air shows. Their objective is to appear perfectly spaced from a ground perspective. Freshly-ploughed English fields with properties, roads and hedgerows are seen below. After some time off, spare days like this are used to hone their manual aerobatic and piloting skills before re-joining the air show circuit. Since 1965 they've flown over 4,000 shows in 52 countries.   .

  • Locals gather to pay their respects to a growing mound of a floral memorial in memory of two people killed by an IRA bomb in the centre of Warrington, Cheshire, England. On 20 March 1993 the explosion by Irish republican terrorists in Bridge Street in the town centre precinct. Two small bombs exploded in litter bins outside a Boots store and a McDonald's restaurant, killing two children and injuring many other people. Although a warning or warnings had been sent, the area was not evacuated in time. Both attacks were perpetrated by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA). Three-year-old Johnathan Ball died at the scene, while his babysitter survived. The second victim, 12-year-old Tim Parry, who received the full force of the blast, was gravely wounded but died weeks later.

  • Gathered on the Docklands Light Railway track, a group of police investigators and health and safety experts stand beneath the devastation and wreckage caused by the IRA's docklands bomb on 10th February 1996. Office windows have been blown out and shattered glass lies everywhere making these workplaces unusable for many months afterwards. We see the men under the tall buildings looking tiny in comparison to the chaotic aftermath of this enormous explosion the day before. The bombing marked the end of a 17-month IRA ceasefire during which Irish, British and American leaders worked for a political solution to the troubles in Northern Ireland. 2 people were killed in the half-tonne lorry bomb blast which caused an estimated £85 million damage.

  • Two days after the Irish Republican Army (IRA) exploded a truck bomb on Bishopsgate, a main arterial road that travels north-south through London's financial area, City of London engineering officials examine the huge crater left by the terrorist device. We see debris around the hole with drainage and road material. It was said that Roman remains could be viewed at the bottom of the pit the bomb created. One person was killed when the one ton fertiliser bomb detonated directly outside the medieval St Ethelburga's church. Buildings up to 500 metres away were damaged, with one and a half million square feet (140,000 m²) of office space being affected and over 500 tonnes of glass broken. Costs of repairing the damage was estimated at £350 million. It was possibly the (IRA's) most successful military tactic since the start of the Troubles.

  • The massive IRA bomb in Bishopsgate Street in the heart of the City of London destroyed a substantial number of businesses and disrupted a major part of London's financial hub. In the days after the attack on 24th April 1993, we see the pictorial evacuation of smiling faces in a portrait of Pret a Manger staff, the sandwich and lunch chain (from the French 'Ready to Eat'). The image was hung above the premises and construction workers wearing hard hats transport the picture, like hundreds of other nearby businesses whose workers carried away company property, for temporary safe storage. This store was also badly damaged and had to be transferred to another location. The City of London has a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000. It is a geographically-small City within Greater London, England. The City as it is known, is the historic core of London from which, along with Westminster, the modern conurbation grew. The City's boundaries have remained constant since the Middle Ages but  it is now only a tiny part of Greater London. The City of London is a major financial centre, often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 km) in area.

  • Taken from a tall apartment block, we see an aerial view overlooking the ex-Portuguese colony of Macau's Chinese Christian cemetery of San Miguel. The Cemiterio de São Miguel Arcanjo (Saint Miguel Catholic Cemetery) is located right in the middle of Macao island, on Estrada do Cemiterio and host the graves of the old Dutch and Portuguese colonials that helped shape Macau, now one of the world's most densely-populated city. We see a single Chinese lady walking along one of many criss-crossing diagonal pathways carrying a red bucket of water to tend these graves. She appears tiny compared to the multitude of plots, some which have crosses and others which have simple headstones. They are mostly neat and tidy but some have become overgrown with grass sprouting up. Macau's gambling revenue in 2006 weighed in at a massive £3.6bn - about £100m more than Las Vegas. The official languages are Portuguese and Chinese. The Macau Special Administrative Region is one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China (PRC), along with Hong Kong. Administered by Portugal until 1999, it was the oldest European colony in China, dating back to the 16th century. The administrative power over Macau was transferred to the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1999, 2 years after Hong Kong's own handover. .

  • Corporal Mal Faulder pushes a Martin-Baker ejection seat through an RAF Hangar. He is an Armourer (an engineer handling seats and weaponry on military jets) but here in the elite 'Red Arrows', Britain's Royal Air Force aerobatic team, his duties are wider. With other members of the team's support staff (the Blues who outnumber the pilots the Reds by 8 to 1) he also helps clean the Hawk aircraft before air shows across the country. He pulls the seat into a blast-protected bunker for safe storage where explosive charges inside this equipment are temporarily removed. The seat is returned to service when the aircraft is through its regular maintenance schedule. British company Martin-Baker manufacturers ejection seats and membership of the its Tie Club is solely for air crew who have ejected from an aircraft in an emergency which saved their life.

  • A Securicor guard delivers a cash box to a City of London bank. Walking quickly to avoid delays in the street, the employee of this security company carries the secure box wearing protective helmet in case of an armed robbery - his most vulnerable body area being the head and neck. The box is padlocked and contains explosive dyes and loud alarms if forcefull opened. Securicor was originally founded by Edward Shortt, a former Liberal Cabinet Minister, in 1935 as Nightwatch Services: its guards rode bicycles and wore old police uniforms. However in 1939 it was taken over by Lord Willingdon and Henry Tiarks who developed it into a leading security business. It changed its name to Security Corps in 1951 then shortened to Securicor in 1953.

  • Boeing's demonstrates SUGV (also known as iRobot) demonstrated at the US company's chalet Farnborough Airshow. Still in development, the iRobot will be used by the military for surveillance  and reconnaissance, bomb disposal of IEDs, at checkpoints, inspections and explosives detection, minimising the risk to troops. The Farnborough International Airshow is a seven-day international trade fair for the aerospace business which is held biennially in Hampshire, England. The airshow is organised by Farnborough International Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of British aerospace industry's body the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) to demonstrate both civilian and military aircraft to potential customers and investors.
