  • With a look of delight on her face, a four year-old girl stamps through fallen snow in a field near her home in Bielefeld, Germany. Wearing a vibrant red bobble hat and matching coat, she smiles towards the viewer with the pleasure of any child enjoying the excitement of fresh snow. Ski or sledge tracks can be seen at her feet but she is the only person in this empty landscape, as if she's walking on her own through the snowy hills. It is the winter of 1967 and the reds are very vibrant and dominant from the Kodachrome film used which also has a wonderful muted blue colour cast in the mid-tones giving the picture a chilly, wintry feel reminiscent of the classic days of early photography when shifts in color gave a faded and dated look.

  • Lens flare from setting sun between layers of cloud over inner-city south London rooftops. As the sun sinks inn the winter sky, over the inner-city of Britain's capital, we see a variety of eras in the architecture of urban housing: From Ewardian period in the foreground to the tower blocks from the 60s in the distance. A warm glow of light flares from the camera lens to give an almost cosy feel to the landscape while giving a sense of raw cold on this April evening.

  • NHS Paramedic Janet Greenhead attends to a lady passenger in Heathrow airport's terminal 3 who has tripped on escalators and badly gashed her leg. Janet applies a dressing and cleans the deep wound before advising the lady to visit a local hospital. Paramedics 'Responders' are with the cycle response unit (CRU), part of the London Ambulance Service whose job is to attend injuries within Heathrow, cycling through the terminals on mountain bikes. She answers radio calls from those with a cut finger, a baggage handler who's injured an arm, a child who's fallen over with cuts and bruises or a much more serious incident like a cardiac arrest which are common in an airport where passengers feel under stress or who forget to take their medicines while jet lagged. • "Then raindrops fell on my head." Looking over the shoulder as a mother pours bath water from a toy seive on to the head of her five month-old baby daughter. The infant looks unsure but otherwise spellbound as the droplets fall, watching them leaving the pot to feel them trickling down. We see the child's trust for her mother and imagine her fascination with tumbling liquid, the feel of it touching her skin. This water is shallow, a child can drown in an inch of water so the mum is supporting the baby's head around the neck in the correct manner. This is from a documentary series of pictures about the first year of the photographer's first child Ella. Accompanied by personal reflections and references from various nursery rhymes, this work describes his wife Lynda's journey from expectant to actual motherhood and for Ella - from new-born to one year-old.

  • A water bottle that has been filled by human urine, has been discarded in the gutter on a residential street in south London, on 27th january 2021, in London, England. Delivery courier drivers often complain about the lack of toilet facilities on their driving routes and so feel the need to drop their filled bottles in the street. Local residents however, find this disgusting behaviour anti-social.

  • A portrait of three brothers of the same family have their picture taken outside their parents' home in Westcliff, England. The eldest is a teenager of approximately 17 and is holding his youngest brother who is still only 12 months-old. The third boy is biting his lip while looking to the viewer, more anxiously than the other two. He is possibly 14 but both the elder lads wear identically-designed jumpers that cut across the throat to allow their clean white shirts and ties to remain visible. Apart from the young child, the elders share the same dark hair colour but genetically, they share one chromosome that has given them heavy eyebrows, a family trait. This was taken on Kodachrome film stock in the spring of 1961 so the look and feel of the image is dated with wonderfully muted colours that this Kodak film offered to consumers in the early 60s.

  • A lone male figure makes his way along a corridor of power in the newly-opened European Parliament building in Brussels, Belgium. As the new head-quarters of the EU and an administrative home to the Members of European Parliament (MEPs), it is a contemporary architectural symbol of infuence and modernity. We see the man walking towards an open atrium. The viewer can see three floors though there are many more out of sight and on two of the levels there are TV screens with the stars denoting the number of member states at that time. The interior is grid-like with warm and inviting lighting, making for a productive environment in which office workers can feel comfortable when dealing with European political business.
