  • An elderly gentleman takes a photo using a 35mm film camera during the annual Chelsea Flower Show in London. The elderly man peers at the world through his camera's viewfinder to see the world within a small aperture, to record his view of the scenes using the analogue film system, a decade before the arrival of digital imaging technology.

  • A special effects model maker artist works on a clay head of actor Pierce Brosnan in his role as James Bond in the 1996 film GoldenEye, filmed at an old Rolls-Royce factory at the Leavesden Aerodrome in Hertfordshire. Using publicity and studio head shots of Brosnan, the woman refers to the glossy prints to sculpt the contours and shape for a scene requiring a miniature version of 007. GoldenEye (1995) is the seventeenth spy film in the James Bond series, and the first to star Pierce Brosnan as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. The film was directed by Martin Campbell and is the first film in the series not to take story elements from the works of novelist Ian Fleming.

  • Accompanied by a pianist, south Londoners sit outside their rail station on whose wall is a screening of the silent film Easy Street starring a former local boy, Charlie Chaplin, kicking off a series of the Free Film Festival in Herne Hill in the London borough of Lambeth. There is no official record of his birth although Chaplin believed he was born at East Street in nearby Walworth. Chaplin's childhood was fraught with poverty and hardship, making his eventual trajectory 'the most dramatic of all the rags to riches stories ever told'. Easy Street is a 1917 short comedy. In the film, the police are failing to maintain law and order and so it is Chaplin, as the Little Tramp character, who steps forward (rather reluctantly) to rid the street of bullies, help the poor, save women from madmen and generally keep the peace.

  • During the Cannes Film Festival, we see a group of women taken from a very low angle , posing in bikinis and revealing swim wear for a frenzy of photographers on La Croisette, Cannes' sea front in the French Riviera resort, Cote d'Azur. One blonde girl is looking down into the camera while we see only the hips, arms, and legs of the others as they parade their bodies in front of the media who are grouped tightly together with cameras and a sound microphone. Young women publicising movies or just themselves regularly strut along the beaches and pavements of this French town. The weather is typically bright for May with clear skies and high temperatures. Cannes is a major tourist centre and a leading resort on the French Riviera. Located in the Alpes-Maritimes région, Founded in 1939, the International Film Festival is one of the world's most prestigious and eccentric of celebrations of film and the cinema industry.

  • An elderly lady uses a 1970s model of Kodak Instamatic film camera whilst visiting an English country garden. With her eye pressed to the viewfinder, this amateur photographer is a pensioner on a day trip to the country and she takes a snapshot to record the beautiful view of flower beds and neatly-trimmed lawns. The Instamatic was a series of inexpensive, easy-to-load 126 and 110 cameras made by Kodak from 1963 and it was immensely successful, introducing a generation to low-cost photography and helping the growth of the contemporary photographic family album. More than 50 million Instamatic cameras were produced between 1963 and 1970. Kodak even gave away a considerable number in a joint promotion with Scott paper towels in the early 1970s in order to generate a large number of new photographers and stimulate lasting demand for its film business.

  • A mother holds her 3 year-old son during summer time in the early 1960s. Looking up from a low angle, see see the mother and her young son in sunlight, made dark by underexposure of the film, recorded on a camera by the boy's father, an amateur photographer in 1964. The mast and rigging of a small boat can be seen behind so they must be at the seaside, near from where they live in Southend-on-Sea in Essex. The sky is a deep blue and the shapes on their heads almost merge with the background. It was recorded on a film camera by the boy's father, an amateur photographer in 1962. The picture shows us a memory of nostalgia in an era from the last century.

  • A portrait of three brothers of the same family have their picture taken outside their parents' home in Westcliff, England. The eldest is a teenager of approximately 17 and is holding his youngest brother who is still only 12 months-old. The third boy is biting his lip while looking to the viewer, more anxiously than the other two. He is possibly 14 but both the elder lads wear identically-designed jumpers that cut across the throat to allow their clean white shirts and ties to remain visible. Apart from the young child, the elders share the same dark hair colour but genetically, they share one chromosome that has given them heavy eyebrows, a family trait. This was taken on Kodachrome film stock in the spring of 1961 so the look and feel of the image is dated with wonderfully muted colours that this Kodak film offered to consumers in the early 60s.

  • With a look of delight on her face, a four year-old girl stamps through fallen snow in a field near her home in Bielefeld, Germany. Wearing a vibrant red bobble hat and matching coat, she smiles towards the viewer with the pleasure of any child enjoying the excitement of fresh snow. Ski or sledge tracks can be seen at her feet but she is the only person in this empty landscape, as if she's walking on her own through the snowy hills. It is the winter of 1967 and the reds are very vibrant and dominant from the Kodachrome film used which also has a wonderful muted blue colour cast in the mid-tones giving the picture a chilly, wintry feel reminiscent of the classic days of early photography when shifts in color gave a faded and dated look.
