  • On the living room floor at home, a young mother grabs a few minutes to herself to exercises her pelvic floor muscles three weeks after giving birth to a baby girl who lies asleep in a Moses basket carry cot on the carpet. She rotates her hips to her right, twisting her body to regain strength in her lower torso, still sore from labour. This is from a documentary series of pictures about the first year of the photographer's first child Ella. Accompanied by personal reflections and references from various nursery rhymes, this work describes his wife Lynda's journey from expectant to actual motherhood and for Ella - from new-born to one year-old.

  • On the very last day of British rule over its Hong Kong colony, we see an elegant but headless life-size clothing mannequin seated on a chair on the shop floor of Chinese clothing brand Shanghai Tang. In the brand's flagship store, the last hours tick away before the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to the Peoples Republic of China (PRC), often referred to as "The Handover" on June 30, 1997. Midnight of that day signified the end of British rule and the transfer of legal and financial authority back to China. Shanghai Tang is an international clothing chain company, founded in 1994 by Hong Kong businessman David Tang Wing Cheung. This was the original store in Hong Kong's Pedder Street (in Central) providing the lead for 24 outlets worldwide.

  • An aerial view of the 1980s options trading floor at the London Stock Exchange. We look down from a high vantagepoint on to the traders as they go about their business. Three years after the so-called Big Bang in 1986 , this location at the old Stock Exchange Tower became redundant with the advent of the Big Bang, which deregulated many of the Stock Exchange's activities as it enabled an increased use of computerised systems that allowed dealing rooms to take precedence over face to face trading. Thus, in 2004, the House moved to a brand new headquarters in Paternoster Square, close to St Paul's Cathedral.

The family have taken the precaution of using a professional removal company, rather than trying to move themselves, and we see a yellow storage van parked outside in the street ready to drive the house's contents to the new property. This family home is now empty awaiting its new occupants who will soon arrive with their own items.

  • Smoke has been discovered in the basement of a shop in Market Street, Newport town centre, south Wales. We look down into a dark hole where two fire fighters - one of which is a senior officer, with two stripes on his helmet - have gone down a ladder to find the source of the smoke while wearing breathing apparatus (BA) as a precaution. While looking up they discuss the possibilities of a seat of fire elsewhere so they talk to their colleagues who crouch over the open floor of the business who dialled 999 for the fire brigade to attend this incident. It is 1984 and the firemens' equipment looks dated, during an era when uniform material was not of a high fire-retardant specification and nor were their helmets which went through important design changes.

In the privacy of the closed gallery, a lady official from the RA is bending down, resting her hands on knees and scrutinizing for possible damage after their removal from travel packing crates, whilst on the floor before hanging for public view. We see the largest picture on the right (Luca Carlevaris, The Bucintore Departing from S. Marco. 1710) of the Grand Canal in Venice and on the left is 'Domenico Tiepolo, The Institution of the Eucharist, 1753'. Easing back during the stress of a day when the money markets have been volatile, this young man has the responsibilities of millions of Pounds Sterling to trade and value. Communication was therefore slow and unreliable although banks like Barclays who traded money across the world were skilled in migrating information across time-zones.

  • Separated by four floors, two employees of the auditing company Ernst & Young, make their way along walkways in the main atrium of E & Y's European headquarter offices at More London, London England. Striding confidently between offices, the two people are unaware of each other's presence but make their way from right to left of this tall, upright scene of modernity. The senior person on top may have an advantage from better opportunities, the low-ranking worker below may be needing to rise up the ranks. Morning sunlight floods through the green tinted glass that overlooks Tower Bridge on the River Thames. The term atrium comes from Latin: a large and light central hall or reception of a house where guests were greeted. The depth and height of all levels from near the top to almost the bottom give a sense of vertigo, a dizzying perspective. .

  • A young couple demonstrate their rock 'n' roll dancing skills in front of a crowd in Myatts Fields park in Camberwell, South London UK. Spinning his partner on the specially-laid flooring, the gentleman is dressed in a double-breasted suit in keeping with the 1950s theme of this fair's celebration of a newly-refurbished park. The lady wears a red dress and holds her arm out to regain balance as she is pulled back towards her dance partner. The seated crowd watch attentively beneath London Plain trees whose foliage gives welcome shade on a warm summer afternoon.
