  • Using a tabloid newspaper, a father seeks shelter from sunshine while sitting in a council deck chair. On the front page of the paper is a headline saying "Butchered' showing a picture of an unfortunate young 3 year-old boy murdered by a maniac axeman. Close-by is the man's own son who is digging a hole furiously in the sand. He looks uncannily like a slightly older version of the murdered boy. This coincidence is heightened because of the body-language of the digging lad, seemingly about to chop an unseen object with his red spade. Both man and boy are on holiday at the northern English seaside resort of Scarborough, North Yorkshire and they are otherwise having a great time on South Beach, near the Grand Hotel building, high up on the cliff.

  • Pigeon pest controller, Sue Van Vynck releases Harriet, her Harris Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus) to scare away the local pigeon population. The ancient sport of Falconry has become today's humane pest control of choice, particularly as costs falls. Once a pigeon population has been scared away, it requires only a token hawk presence to keep it away. Van Vynck Bird Control is a specialist company providing over 25 years, a range of environmental services dealing with nuisance bird management. They are pioneers of specialist techniques such as the use of predatory species (such as falconry) to displace and interrupt behavioural patterns as well as offering a complete range of physical deterrents. Here at Broadgate the nuisance was pigeons and Harriet leaves Sue's gloved hand to patrol the architecture of this 32 acres (129,499 m2) office and retail space.

  • A 5 year-old boy has his bike journey to nursery school disrupted by a vandalised car that lies on the side of a quiet path in Dulwich, south London. Perhaps stolen and certainly attacked then left on the side of this pedestrian thoroughfare where graffiti has been sprayed on the pavement and fences that back on to nearby homes. The alleyway is used by cyclists and commuters taking a quiet route into central London from this leafy suburb.

  • A mother holds the hand of her 5 year-old son during a visit to London zoo in the early 1960s. Looking frightened and upset, the small lad walks hand in hand with his mum, away from where there are scary wild animals in cages but still a frightening experience to a little person. The mother is smartly-dresed for the family day out to the capital and its zoo in Regents Park. It was was recorded on film camera by the boy's father, an amateur photographer in 1962. The picture shows us a memory of nostalgia in an era from the last century.

  • A French Dassault-Breguet Mirage military jet interceptor/fighter stands on a pedestal in the Place de la Concorde, Paris during an aviation display weekend along the Champs Elysées. Passers-by seem oblivious to this celebration of French aviation as they walk through the Parisian square, the scene of public executions during the revolution. The Mirage seems to be climbing off its platform and up into the cloudless summer afternoon sky as a young child sits on top of his father's shoulders and passengers in a city bus seem trapped behind the windows. Its is a scene of incongruous moments, a surreal appearance of frightening military technology amid the calm of a public place. Picture from the 'Plane Pictures' project, a celebration of aviation aesthetics and flying culture, 100 years after the Wright brothers first 12 seconds/120 feet powered flight at Kitty Hawk,1903. .
