  • We are looking down from above to office and business workers who are lying down and relaxing in the grass in their lunch break at Finsbury Circus, a circular green park space in the heart of London's financial district, the City of London. Surrounding them is an art instillation of steel sheep that are incongruously grazing among the assorted people, much like they once did when London was a home to livestock en-route to market and other animals used for transport. It is a warm afternoon and in the foreground, a man wearing a dark suit has taken off his polished shoes and is lying his head on his jacket in the warm afternoon, loosening his tight tie and stretching his neck. Elsewhere, a lady is sitting eating a packed lunch with the Sun newspaper and a man a little further behind is in jeans and plimsoll shoes. The City of London has a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000. The City of London is a geographically-small City within Greater London, England. The City as it is known, is the historic core of London from which, along with Westminster, the modern conurbation grew. The City's boundaries have remained constant since the Middle Ages but it is now only a tiny part of Greater London. The City of London is a major financial centre, often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 km) in area. London Bridge's history stretches back to the first crossing over Roman Londinium, close to this site and subsequent wooden and stone bridges have helped modern London become a financial success.

  • From a high viewpoint on Snow Hill, we see the green 'Long Walk' in the Royal Estate's Windsor Great Park. We look down the 3-mile straight road into the distance towards Windsor Castle in the summer shinshine during the equestrian 3-Day Event held annually on Her Majesty the Queens's property. Half-way down the lush avenue of Elm trees there are some horses and their riders either warming up before competition, or galloping across the landscape on a round against the clock. A few spectators have stopped to watch this part of the course but others are elsewhere at the dramatic water jumps. The Long Walk was commenced by Charles II from 1680-1685 by planting a double avenue of elm trees. The central carriage road was added by Queen Anne in 1710. Windsor Castle was begun in the 11th century by William the Conqueror as it afforded a good defensive point over the River Thames. A vast area of Windsor Forest to the south of the castle became reserved by the King for personal hunting and also to supply the castle with wood, deer, boar and fish. Windsor Great Park (locally referred to simply as the Great Park) is a large deer park and Crown Estate of 5,000 acres, to the south of the town of Windsor on the border of Berkshire and Surrey in England. The park was, for many centuries, the private hunting ground of Windsor Castle and dates primarily from the mid-13th century. Now largely open to the public, the parkland is a popular recreation area for residents of the western London suburbs.

  • Brits enjoy a hot summer to watch live coverage from a large tv screen in the Olympic Park during the London 2012 Olympics. Under union jack umbrellas they sit on green grass located on a hilltop across from giant Olympic rings used as a background for spectators' photos. London's Olympic Park, at just under a square mile, is the largest new park in the city for more than 100 years. The planting of 4,000 trees, 300,000 wetland plants and more than 150,000 perennial plants plus nectar-rich wildflower make for a colourful setting for the Games. This land was transformed to become a 2.5 Sq Km sporting complex, once industrial businesses and now the venue of eight venues including the main arena, Aquatics Centre and Velodrome plus the athletes' Olympic Village. After the Olympics, the park is to be known as Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

  • Park users feed the very common green Parakeets by hand, in Kensington Park, on 2nd April 2021, in London, England. According to the RSPB, the ring-necked, or rose-ringed, parakeet is the UK's most abundant naturalised parrot. It became established in the wild in the 1970s after captive birds escaped or were released. It is a well-known resident of the greater London area, roosting communally in large flocks. The population has been increasing steadily, though it remains concentrated in south-east England. The ring-necked parakeet's native range is a broad belt of arid tropical countryside stretching from west Africa across lowland India south of the Himalayas, where it is a common bird.

  • A Polish man leans over to put the finishing touches to two small snowmen that now occupy a park bench on Goose Green in East Dulwich, Southwark, South London, England. This otherwise green space has seen snow falls that have gripped this part of the capital with unsalted road surfaces and commuting nightmares. But this young man is having fun with his diminutive snowy creations who have been dressed up in his and a friend's glasses, their scarves and gloves and with locally-found twigs. The park is relatively quiet with only a hint of the chaos elsewhere but the time spent on pointless pursuits is one way of enjoying adverse weather, rather than the more serious business of getting to work, proving also that snow brings out the childish nature in us all.
