With window light falling across the dad and girl, the two are both dressed in shades of blue - the father with darker skin than his daughter. They are both Tamil refugees from the Indian Ocean Island of Sri Lanka and have escaped the civil war there where their ethnic group is being dangerously persecuted by the Singhalese majority. The family have recently arrived in Britain seeking political asylum and are temporarily housed in a bare council flat in Chalk Farm in North London. The girl reaches up to touch the man's moustache and he lets her grab his mouth in a playful respite from their life-changing circumstances.

  • A Royal Air Force Sea King Westland helicopter takes-off after a medical mission to deliver a patient to Kings College Hospital in Camberwell. As locals look on at the aircraft as it lifts off from Ruskin Park, Lambeth in south London, the yellow RAF search and rescue aircraft (SAR) leaves to return to base. Both RAF, Royal Navy and London air ambulances regularly use this public space for emergency transporting of casualties to the NHS Trust A&E department.

  • A baby girl is crawling on all-fours along her parents' pavement, in a suburban London back garden. Her body weight is spread on two legs and one arm while she moves along confidently, placing her other hand on the warm surface, one summer day. The infant is a approximately 10 months and is gaining strength from her legs which will soon be strong enough to stand and eventually walk. The summer sun is on her back and the shadow of garden chair furniture is on the path alongside her. She has a contented expression on her face as if her little adventure in a big outside, wider world is for her to explore.
