  • Looking upwards towards the back of a number 8 red London bus which passes the pillars of the famous Bank of England building at Cornhill in the City Of London, the financial district, otherwise known as the Square Mile. We see the Bank rising as an imposing classical structure. Its columns are converging because of wide-angle lens-distortion, giving us the image of strength, stability and influence in UK economics. The bus is a traditional design called a Routemaster which has been in service on the capital's roads since 1954 and is nowadays only seen on heritage routes. Its distinctive rounded rear bodywork is easily recognisable as that classic British icon.

  • It is dusk and the evening light is fast-disappearing behind the buildings of Westminster, London. Seen from the south bank of the River Thames and looking over Westminster Bridge, traffic lights trail and the light fades over the Palace of Westminster and the tall clock tower of Big Ben, London England. Street lights flare intensively during the long-exposure and there is enough ambient light to see the reflections on the river's water. The Palace, also known as the Houses of Parliament or Westminster Palace, is where the two Houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (the House of Lords and the House of Commons) conduct their business. It is therefore a potent symbol for British Governmental power, influence and a world-famous landmark for tourists. Big Ben is the name of the clock's bell and not the tower itself.

  • We are looking up from below at a Latin inscription describing the era of Elizabethan rule, a classic neo-Romanesque architecture of the Royal Exchange building in the City Of London, the financial district, otherwise known as the Square Mile. At the top of Doric and Ionic columns with their ornate stonework, powerfully strong lintels cross, bearing the load of fine artistry and carvings which feature the design by Sir William Tite in 1842-1844 and opened in 1844 by Queen Victoria whose name is written in Latin (Victoriae R). It’s the third building of the kind erected on the same site. The first Exchange erected in 1564-70 by sir Thomas Gresham but was destroyed in the great fire of 1666. It’s successor, by Jarman, was also burned down in 1838. The present building is grade 1 listed and cost about £150,000.

Midnight of that day signified the end of British rule and the transfer of legal and financial authority back to China. • Office lights illuminate the 800 foot tower at 1 Canada Square, Canary Wharf in London Docklands, one of the tallest buildings in Europe. Designed by the Argentine architect César Pelli, construction was completed in 1991. Identifiable from a great distance as an obelisk-shaped tower with its aircraft warning light flashing on top, this building is a monument to 1980s-style capitalism...From the 'Windows' series. ..Since Microsoft brought about the name Windows to brand the PC computing user interface, I have taken it upon myself to collect and henceforth, add to - a group of pictures about the original window, long after the original word was hijacked by a man called Gates. More will be added during 2007...Windows have been around for a long time - the Romans invaders even had a glass substance that sealed the chilly British air - and stench - from their sensitive Roman noses. ..Nowadays, I'm attracted to the labelling and messaging that becomes attached to the inside or outside of panes of glass, as if they are urban, public post-it notes for anything an individual wishes to share or advertise. Sometimes the message can be a warning, a cry for help or just an accidental freak of mis-spelling that somehow creates a different meaning altogether to that intended. ..
