  • In Windsor Great Park's Long Walk across the landscape a hose gallops during a 3-day cross-country event, held annually on Her Majesty the Queens's property, on 16th June 1994, in London, England. The Long Walk was commenced by Charles II from 1680-1685 by planting a double avenue of elm trees. The park was, for many centuries, the private hunting ground of Windsor Castle and dates primarily from the mid-13th century. Now largely open to the public, the parkland is a popular recreation area for residents of the western London suburbs. The Copper Horse is a statue marking the end of the Long Walk at Snow Hill in Windsor Great Park in the English county of Berkshire. The walk begins at the George IV Gateway at Windsor Castle. The Copper Horse is a statue of George III on horseback, and is said to represent George as an emperor in the Roman tradition riding without stirrups, along the lines of the Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius.

  • From a high viewpoint on Snow Hill, we see the green 'Long Walk' in the Royal Estate's Windsor Great Park. We look down the 3-mile straight road into the distance towards Windsor Castle in the summer shinshine during the equestrian 3-Day Event held annually on Her Majesty the Queens's property. Half-way down the lush avenue of Elm trees there are some horses and their riders either warming up before competition, or galloping across the landscape on a round against the clock. A few spectators have stopped to watch this part of the course but others are elsewhere at the dramatic water jumps. The Long Walk was commenced by Charles II from 1680-1685 by planting a double avenue of elm trees. The central carriage road was added by Queen Anne in 1710. Windsor Castle was begun in the 11th century by William the Conqueror as it afforded a good defensive point over the River Thames. A vast area of Windsor Forest to the south of the castle became reserved by the King for personal hunting and also to supply the castle with wood, deer, boar and fish. Windsor Great Park (locally referred to simply as the Great Park) is a large deer park and Crown Estate of 5,000 acres, to the south of the town of Windsor on the border of Berkshire and Surrey in England. The park was, for many centuries, the private hunting ground of Windsor Castle and dates primarily from the mid-13th century. Now largely open to the public, the parkland is a popular recreation area for residents of the western London suburbs.

  • Walkers on Long Causeway, at Stanage Edge gritstone cliffs, Peak District National Park, Derbyshire..Located in the Peak District National Park in England Stanage Edge is the largest of the gritstone edges that overlook Hathersage in Derbyshire. Stanage Edge at approximately 4 miles in length and 458m at its highest point is the largest of the gritstone cliffs that overlook Hathersage, Derbyshire. The area is one of the most popular locations in the Peak District National Park for climbing and walking with hundreds of rock climbing routes to challenge all ranges of ability. Walkers are drawn to the area to enjoy the varied moorland scenery with stunning views across the surrounding countryside including Hathersage, Castleton and the 'Shivering Mountain', Mam Tor in the west. A walk along the edge is an easy route but the exposed cliff can make conditions difficult throughout the year as it is often battered by wind, rain and regular snowfall in the winter months. There are a number of popular walks including routes along the remains of a Roman Road and towards Redmires Reservoir to the east as well as longer walks such as those including the nearby Longshaw Estate. • A businessman wearing a light summer suit and carrying a briefcase walks away in the opposite direction to Canary Wharf tower which is seen over his shoulder from across a tree-lined Brockwell Park in South London, approximately 7.5 miles away. The flattened-perspective is because of an extremely long telephoto lens making it seem closer than it is in reality. Canary Wharf is the product of the 1980s financial boom when during the office of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, huge building projects such as the Docklands consortium saw vast changes in London's landscape.

  • An athletic man poses against a wall on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, Florida. This fine specimen of a man wears roller-blades and trousers tucked into his skates with a yellow t-shirt with the word Frequency across his pectoral muscles. His shdow appears across the wall and because of the angle, his shape has been greatly exaggerated, his body becoming a much wider, stockier proportion than the reality. He stands with an arm resting high on the wall and the other on his hip, almost in a feminine manner. He is nonetheless the epitome of maleness, of virility with the healthy physique that women adore and other men are jealous of! The sdidewalk pavement arcs around a corner and the wall with its long shadow is a strong diagonal line across the picture, disappearing to the far right.

  • Sitting among others in long grass a middle-class lady reads the high-circulation Daily Mail newspaper during a lunchtime break at the Chelsea Flower Show, in London England. The front page headline reads 'Icy Blast from the Kremlin' in an echo from the darkest days of the Cold War, when western media fuelled the insatiable appetite for propaganda. But this scene is from May 1989 before the fall of the Berlin Wall and when the eastern states of the Warsaw Pact were still ruled by their Communist masters. Visitors to this annual horticultural event either sit in the cool shade or like this woman who appears comfortable cross-legged in sandals and a summer dress, stays under the hot mid-day sun with her tabloid format paper spread and with her possessions kept in a shoulder bag.

  • It is dusk and the evening light is fast-disappearing behind the buildings of Westminster, London. Seen from the south bank of the River Thames and looking over Westminster Bridge, traffic lights trail and the light fades over the Palace of Westminster and the tall clock tower of Big Ben, London England. Street lights flare intensively during the long-exposure and there is enough ambient light to see the reflections on the river's water. The Palace, also known as the Houses of Parliament or Westminster Palace, is where the two Houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (the House of Lords and the House of Commons) conduct their business. It is therefore a potent symbol for British Governmental power, influence and a world-famous landmark for tourists. Big Ben is the name of the clock's bell and not the tower itself.
