  • Only a man's leg shows as he walks through a shaft of early spring light in a side street in the capital's financial district. This is Lombard Street, originally a piece of land granted by King Edward I to goldsmiths from the part of northern Italy known as Lombardy (larger than the modern region of Lombardy). It is a narrow and usually dark sidestreet near the Bank of England in the heart of what is called the Square Mile - the inner-part and oldest quarter of London occupied first by the Romans 2,000 years ago. Nowadays the City of London is home to banks and financial institutions but also with a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000.

We see the passer-by in a shirt and tie but only two hands, legs and trousers up to the waist of the sunbather, the rest of his upper-body is obscured by the angle of the lens. • As a young office worker sleeps incongruously on a marble pavement, a street sweeper nearby brushes away litter with a small dustpan. The manual labourer wears blue overalls, yellow gloves and keys in his back pocket while the man in a wastecoat and smart trousers and polished slip-on shoes appears to be fast asleep, his fingers across his chest. This scene suggests the social divisions of the working man: Of the young, educated post-war generation whose opportunities have afforded them a faster lifestyle, far removed from that of the physically-demanding job of a man whose life has been spent cleaning and sweeping. English social differences is clearly represented here as the harshness of the manual labourer versus a lazy youth of today, seen in the middle of the modern city.

  • Separated by four floors, two employees of the auditing company Ernst & Young, make their way along walkways in the main atrium of E & Y's European headquarter offices at More London, London England. Striding confidently between offices, the two people are unaware of each other's presence but make their way from right to left of this tall, upright scene of modernity. The senior person on top may have an advantage from better opportunities, the low-ranking worker below may be needing to rise up the ranks. Morning sunlight floods through the green tinted glass that overlooks Tower Bridge on the River Thames. The term atrium comes from Latin: a large and light central hall or reception of a house where guests were greeted. The depth and height of all levels from near the top to almost the bottom give a sense of vertigo, a dizzying perspective. .

  • Walkers make their way towards Gordale Scar, on 12th April 2017, in Malham, in the Yorkshire Dales, England. Gordale Scar is a limestone ravine 1 mile (1.6 km) northeast of Malham, North Yorkshire, England.[1] It contains two waterfalls and has overhanging limestone cliffs over 100 metres high. The gorge could have been formed by water from melting glaciers or a cavern collapse. The stream flowing through the scar is Gordale Beck, which on leaving the gorge flows over Janet's Foss before joining Malham Beck two miles downstream to form the River Aire. A right of way leads up the gorge, but requires some mild scrambling over tufa at the lower waterfall.

Possibly standing on the site of an earlier medieval church, it first appears in the records of 1561, where it is stated that the parsonage of 'Keilnoening' had formerly belonged to the Abbot of Iona, one-third of the revenues going to the Bishop of the Isles as was customary in the diocese. Iona Abbey would have appointed a minister for the church at a stipend lower than the tithes. • An ostrich chick stands alone in a private pen, beneath a heat lamp at the ostrich farm belonging to Robert and Nina Bailey near Chepstow, Wales. The reddish glow from the heat source concentrates life-giving energy into the young bird, helping it survive the first three months after hatching. Rearing these birds is a specialist and very expensive business but Ostrich meat is a South African delicacy, used for Biltong. Nutritionists promote it as a more healthy alternative because it is higher in protein and lower in fat and cholesterol. An ostrich lays an egg every other day, of which 40 to 80% are fertile. In the wild there is a 95% failure rate but using an incubator like this almost guarantees total success. Its latin name, 'Struthio camelus', is the largest of living birds with some males reaching a height of 8 ft (244 cm) and weighing 200 to 300 lb (90-135 kg). In the wild, the polygamous male has from two to six females in his flock. The cock scoops out a hollow for the eggs, which weigh nearly 3 lb (1.35 kg) each. One of the females incubates the eggs during the day, and the cock takes over at night. On the savannah they can run at 40mph (64 kph) for 10 hours though their top speed can reach 80mph. During the 19th-century vogue for ostrich plumes, farms were established in South Africa and later in North America, Australia, and Europe; after World War I fashions changed and the industry collapsed.

  • A lady and her pet green Iguanas stop walking along the surf in Miami Beach's coast for a moment to stand on the sand and kiss on the lips. Away from its proper habitat, this reptile looks comfortable in the hands of its affectionate mothering owner and in this warm climate. These exotic lizards' live in tropical rainforests, in lower altitudes near water sources, such as rivers or streams. They spend most of their time high in the forest canopy, about 40-50 feet above the ground. Iguanas are diurnal, awake during the day. They are also cold-blooded, so they do not produce their own body heat, so need warm temperatures to thrive. Many people in the United States and elsewhere want a green iguana for a pet, so there is a big demand for their capture.

Meanwhile, the boys sister towers above him dressed in a bright red coat and clean white gloves and short white socks. Alongside her is a friend also wearing gloves and a knee-length skirt but we see only their lower bodies and not their faces so they are unrecognisable - an older sibling and a girl friend. It is the summer of 1960 and while the red is vibrant, the blues and greens are more muted in this Kodachrome film which has a wonderful magenta colour cast in the mid-tones reminiscent of the classic days of early photography when shifts in color gave a faded look

  • Whilst on a cruise aboard the Fun Ship Ecstasy during a voyage from Miami around the Gulf of Mexico, passengers enjoy a sexual game on deck beneath a strong tropical sun. Male contestants have lined up to be inspected by a blindfolded lady wearing a swim suit and painted nails who is required to identify her own husband by feeling his lower body and torso. Howls of laughter emit from the other men as the lady realises that this is indeed her own spouse who stands on a chair, his bulging crotch at chest height. She smiles to herself, still blind beneath a towel and the moment is funny enough for all to enjoy a happy hour of organised entertainment on deck. The Panamanian-registered MS Ecstasy is a 70,367 ton cruise ship carrying 2,052 passengers and 920 crew belonging to Vegas-style Carnival Cruise lines.

  • A vertical version that shows the Corinthian columns and covered doorways of exclusive and classically-designed properties in London's famous Eaton Square Belgravia, SW1, owned by Grosvenor Estate. It is a bright spring day with a blue city sky and high, thin clouds. The sun shines on the cream-coloured architectural features and some shadows from trees opposite can be seen on the lower upright pillars and an ornate lamp post. Eaton Square is one of London's three garden squares built by Thomas Cubitt and the Grosvenor family when they developed the main part of Belgravia from 1826 until 1855. Belgravia attracts actors, politicians, ambassadors, big-budget bankers, traders and Prime Ministers like Neville Chamberlain and Stanley Baldwin at number 93..

  • An elderly gentleman wearing a traditional bowler hat and carrying an umbrella, pauses to read the headlines in the London Evening Standard newspaper, before making his way home from Bank Triangle, outside the Bank of England. He is one of the last examples of a bygone age, when many in London's financial district wore such work clothes - a way of typifying a cretain breed of Englishness and class system, known all over, and still expected, around the world. Sadly, gents like this are very rare after modern fashions, lower standards and changed attitudes in the workplace meant that younger men no longer wanted to wear a stuffy outfit to work. The days of the bowler are fast disappearing.

  • On the living room floor at home, a young mother grabs a few minutes to herself to exercises her pelvic floor muscles three weeks after giving birth to a baby girl who lies asleep in a Moses basket carry cot on the carpet. She rotates her hips to her right, twisting her body to regain strength in her lower torso, still sore from labour. This is from a documentary series of pictures about the first year of the photographer's first child Ella. Accompanied by personal reflections and references from various nursery rhymes, this work describes his wife Lynda's journey from expectant to actual motherhood and for Ella - from new-born to one year-old.
