  • Two young British Asian men stand in front of a Bollywood action hero poster, while waiting for a bus in Southhall, West London, England. The lads are in their early twenties and are dressed against the cold European winter. The muscular Indian man in the movie poster is in his prime, posing as a tough guy and making a serious face towards the viewer, his rippling biceps wet with sweat. We see two ordinary young men living the harsh reality of life in a big English city, with all the pressures, paradoxes and cultural differences of India or Bangladesh, and that of multicultural Britain. It may be sunny but the biting winter day is raw with cold.

  • It is mid-day on the narrow stretch of river, green lilly pads float on its surface and in unbder a fierce sun overhead, three young men are lazily making their way to the viewer in a rowing boat on the River Thames near the village of Shillingford, England. The young male in the middle is the one rowing and he pulls on one oar to steer around an unseen obstacle in the absolutely calm, clear blue waters of this majestic river whose source rises in deepest Gloucestershire to its industrial estuary in the English Channel 215 miles (346 km) away. But here in Oxfordshire, we see an idyllic scene of adventure and peace on calm rural waters in a beautiful and tranquil setting, on an English midsummer day. 'Three men in a Boat' published in 1889, is a humorous account by Jerome K. Jerome of a boating holiday on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford.

  • A traditional band of Morris Men dance outside the ancient Christian church of St. Botolph's without Bishopsgate in the City of London on St George's Day. Wearing white uniforms they jig their traditional dance, a form of English folk dance accompanied by accordion and pipes. It is based on rhythmic stepping and the execution of choreographed figures by a group of dancers. Implements such as sticks, swords, and handkerchiefs may also be wielded by the dancers. In a small number of dances for one or two men, steps are performed near and across a pair of clay tobacco pipes laid across each other on the floor. English records of Morris dancing date back to 1448. The church may have survived the Great Fire of London unscathed, and only lost one window in the Second World War, but on 24 April 1993 was one of the many buildings to be damaged by an IRA bomb.

  • Young men in drag perform to an audience as part of their Club 18-30 holiday experience to Ibiza, Spain. A tour rep encourages the men to push their inibitions to the limit but with a reputation for 'Sun, Sand and Sex' the 18-30 holiday formula has been labelled as parents' worth nightmare. From from the company's web site however the fantasy sounds less riotous: "There comes a time in life when you need to do it for yourself. A time to break free and break the mould. To explore, leave the map at home and find yourself. To find that one moment and make it last a lifetime. That time is now. Sunrise to sunset. Sunset to sunrise. This is the time of your life. Love every single second of it."

  • Homeless men sleep beneath the statue of US President George Washington in London's Trafalgar Square. The sleeping males are seen stretched across the lawn outside the National Gallery as America's first president looks important and statesmanlike, a symbol of pioneering freedom and success whereas the men are symptomatic of poverty and failure. The George Washington is a replica of a work by Jean-Antoine Houdon.

  • Three young men are seen from a very low angle as they make arrangements with other friends to meet at the Spring Feria in Seville, Spain. Beneath dozens of colourful lights which hang from cables above their heads, two stand holding drinks while the third speaks into his mobile phone. They are all impeccably dressed in smart jackets and tasteful ties with one owning a carnation in his lapel. It is a lively event that Seville holds annually in the vast fairground area on the far bank of the Guadalquivir River. Rows of temporary marquee tents, or casetas, host families, corporations and friends into the late hours during the April Fair which begins begins two weeks after the Semana Santa, or Easter Holy Week in the Andalusian capital.
