  • Beneath a huge banner that hangs from the exterior wall of the Ikea store in Croydon, South London adults await their partners to emerge from their shopping expeditions by the childrens' playground where a climbing frame and wood-chip surface protects young bodies from injury. The poster's message is simple and clear: That their customers and especially children, are our most important assets - our responsibility to protect their safety and well-being. Strong corporate Ikea colours are dominant, their well-known yellow and blue are known throughout Europe as well as the added banner in red. The fonts are in block capitals and possibly easy for young readers too to understand.

Before their migration, the anonymous, downtrodden people were desperate enough to write this piece of anarchical philosophy that might be seen as a metaphor for a class war against the establishment by The People; the working classes otherwise known in Marxist ideology, as the Proletariat - a kind of thought from the (Orwellian) novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, by George Orwell.

Graham is an Evangelical Christian who has been a spiritual adviser to several U.S. presidents including George W Bush with Time Magazine calling him ".. the nation's spiritual counselor."  He is number seven on Gallup's list of admired people for the 20th century and member of the Southern Baptist Convention. Here he is seen towering on a giant screen over the small heads of his UK congregation who are sitting passively listening to the message of this great man of God.   • During a journey into America's hinterlands, days after the September 11th attacks in New York and Washington DC, the breaking news flashes from Fox TV's studios that there are expected to be no more survivors found at Ground Zero. The tragic message reads 'No Signs of Life' in large red letters, read by passers-by along the on the Avenue of the Americas on Manhattan. As the news travels across the building, the camera blurs other TV pictures of live broadcasts with a sense of urgency, speed and desperation in the fruitless search for life.

  • The Occupy London protest enters it's third day with the setting up of a tent city in St. Paul's Churchyard, below the famous Cathedral in the City of London, the capital's financial district. On the Victorian statues that site below an unseen Queen Victoria, the anti-capitalist messages are clear.

  • During a journey into America's hinterlands, days after the September 11th attacks in New York and Washington DC, the streets between 66th and 67th Streets, in the heart of Manhattan's Upper East Side, was a point of focus for those with missing relatives who attached thousands of posters to walls with pictures and messages to loved-ones in the hope of being reunited. DNA samples were taken at the nearby Armory so human remains might be identified. Here, the coloured ink from desktop printers prints have streaked after rain soaked the posters leaving a sense of the tragic disappearance of thousands - a haunting detail of the missing and the dead. Emotions were therefore running high and we see the sad, rain-soaked messages, the faces of happy people and their physical descriptions and contacts numbers. In most cases, these people were never seen again..

  • Standing behind barriers opposite Prime Minister Brown's Downing Street in Whitehall, the heart of Britain's governmental district in Westminster, some of the thousands of pro-Tibet protesters angrily shout their messages to 80 torchbearing personalities who ran 31 miles through the UK capital's streets. We see them holding images of dead Tibetans, killed by Chinese forces during the most recent crackdown in Lhasa and holding placards with anti-Chinese messages. Amid chaotic scenes across London and Paris where mass-arrests and civil disobedience marked what was planned as a  pre-Olympic carnival, the IOC's event proved a disaster for Chinese organisers. 37 were arrested but these facts were blanked from official TV screens which showed only the calm personlities who carried in turn the Olympic flame.

  • During a journey into America's hinterlands, days after the September 11th attacks in New York and Washington DC, we see visitors watching a re-enactment of a Civil War skirmish at the Gettysburg National Military Park. As a group of Confederate troopers parade on the battlefield, we see printed on a woman tourist's back, the quoted words spoken by President George W Bush on 9/11/01. His rallying call to the nation, answering the demand for vengeance against the 'evil-doers' is included in his rhetoric, reproduced on clothing and on messages displayed around the US. The American Civil War's Battle of Gettysburg was fought in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and was the one battle with the largest number of casualties: Between 46,000 and 51,000 killed in the three-days in July 1863.

  • 'Last Day' is written on a closed taylors business in London, a victim of the UK recession. Reduced prices and services are listed on the glass with a poster urging customers to grab a bargain. Around a recession-bled Britain, high-street businesses have been going bust in their thousands. Britain has now endured eight recessions since the Second World War. No two recessions are alike, and that applies to the current slowdown also. It has been caused by a shock to the availability of credit, a massive build up of debt. The number of people out of work currently stands at almost two million. Given the rate at which the economy is deteriorating this could easily be above three million. From a continuing piece of work about windows and urban messages, the picture is from the project of closed business windows: 'Bust - the Art of Recession'.
