  • The solitary figure of a man stands on the roof of an office building in downtown Atlanta during a victory parade for the city's baseball team. The man may be a security guard, keeping watch over the streets below as crowds gather to honour the Atlanta Braves Baseball team, after their 1995 World Series win. The figure is in his manmade environment and the high walls and windows of the buildings that make up this metropolis dwarf this tiny human who in the scale and perspective of a modern city looks incongruous, isolated and insignificant.

  • On the very last day of British rule over its Hong Kong colony, we see two groups representing this colonial territory's population. Commuters walk through Chater Garden about to pass another group of older exercise class. Towering above them all is the Bank of China skyscraper, then the tallest building in Asia, As the last hours tick away before the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to the Peoples Republic of China (PRC), often referred to as "The Handover" on June 30, 1997. Midnight of that day signified the end of British rule and the transfer of legal and financial authority back to China. Almost 7 million people call a territory of 1100 sq km home, squeezing onto only 10% of the available land space. This is a metropolis of high population density and one of the world's economic powerhouses.

  • A group of work colleagues, friends and associates gather on a sunlit terrace with a backdrop of the City of London on the opposite, northern shore of the River Thames. People stand with drinks in their hands in the evening summer sunshine and we see the tall Natwest tower and other banking institutions plus the much older Monument on the far right, commemorating the Great Fire of London in 1666, when the old Elizabethan city was burned to the ground, making way for the newer metropolis. But the architecture we see here is largely from the 1980s building boom of the Thatcherism era.

  • Two window cleaners safely attached to an outside cradle, wash the large panes of glass at a building at Broadgate in the City of London. While stretching with his long sponge into the corner of this window, one worker on the left is wiping soapy liquid onto the grimy glass before cleaning it off with a squeegee. His colleague on the right is communicating with the cradle operator in the building's roof, way above these men, in order to raise the cradle and allowing the men to achieve the correct operating height. Far below them is the capital's Square Mile, London's financial and oldest area. The famous dome of St Paul's Cathedral can be seen most prominently although it is a grey day across this modern metropolis skyline.
