  • A young professional couple lie in the sun and share a humerous moment. They sit with their backs to intricate and delicate tiling which depict the Spanish province of Coruna, at the Plaza de España, Seville, Andalucia, Spain. The lady is sitting with her partner's head in her lap, indicating romance and contentedness as she suppresses a giggle. They are both lit by strong sunshine and gives the impression of a perfect moment in their loving relationship. This semicircular enclosure was built by Aníbal González, the great architect of Sevillian regionalism, for the Ibero-American exposition held in 1929.

  • Elated US citizens celebrate at the very moment of Barack Obama's ingauration as the United States' 44th President, after his Nov 08 election victory as America's first African American Commander in Chief. • Whilst on a cruise aboard the Fun Ship Ecstasy during a voyage from Miami around the Gulf of Mexico, passengers enjoy a sexual game on deck beneath a strong tropical sun. Male contestants have lined up to be inspected by a blindfolded lady wearing a swim suit and painted nails who is required to identify her own husband by feeling his lower body and torso. Howls of laughter emit from the other men as the lady realises that this is indeed her own spouse who stands on a chair, his bulging crotch at chest height. She smiles to herself, still blind beneath a towel and the moment is funny enough for all to enjoy a happy hour of organised entertainment on deck. The Panamanian-registered MS Ecstasy is a 70,367 ton cruise ship carrying 2,052 passengers and 920 crew belonging to Vegas-style Carnival Cruise lines.

  • With a large hand from her worried mother gently caressing her head, a tiny premature new-born born baby sleeps on its side with an oxygen tube in its nose, while gathering strength in her incubator at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, London, England. In her warm cot, a toy bear looks on in the corner and a poem writen on a card from the baby's parents has been attached to the plastic wall. It is a tender moment of hope, that this precious young human life can continue to grow into adulthood and be loved by all. The Royal London Hospital is one of London's oldest, having been founded in 1740 and is a major teaching hospital in Whitechapel, East London..

  • "More than you can chew." A ten month-old infant uses new teeth to bite her mother's nose in the back garden of their Victorian south London terrace home. The mum winces in pain as the child sinks her new milk teeth into her skin but they enjoy a warm summer afternoon, playfully interacting with each other in a moment of parental love and harmony. The girl wears a short-sleeved t-shirt and has plump arms of baby fat, a healthy sign of a contented infant. This is from a documentary series of pictures about the first year of the photographer's first child Ella. Accompanied by personal reflections and references from various nursery rhymes, this work describes his wife Lynda's journey from expectant to actual motherhood and for Ella - from new-born to one year-old.

Seen through the explosive Plexiglass cockpit of a tenth plane, we see forward into deep blue sky as two sets of aerobatic pilots steer their machines from a crossover manoeuvre, their organic white smoke pouring from their jet pipes to emphasize their paths through the air. In front of a local crowd at the airfield the team work their way through a 25-minute series of display manoeuvres that are loved by thousands at summer air shows. After some time off, spare days like this are used to hone their manual aerobatic and piloting skills before re-joining the air show circuit. Since 1965 they've flown over 4,000 shows in 52 countries.

  • A man has chosen a free surface to spread himself out on during a lunchtime break in the City of London. Having removed his shirt and tie, he sunbathes topless with only his trousers and shoes, the clue as to his day-job in a London office. There is a heat wave in the capital and others are soaking up rays during a working week. Bronzed and asleep, the young man is carefree enough not to worry about his eccentric behaviour in a public place.

  • As a young office worker sleeps incongruously on a marble pavement, a street sweeper nearby brushes away litter with a small dustpan. The manual labourer wears blue overalls, yellow gloves and keys in his back pocket while the man in a wastecoat and smart trousers and polished slip-on shoes appears to be fast asleep, his fingers across his chest. This scene suggests the social divisions of the working man: Of the young, educated post-war generation whose opportunities have afforded them a faster lifestyle, far removed from that of the physically-demanding job of a man whose life has been spent cleaning and sweeping. English social differences is clearly represented here as the harshness of the manual labourer versus a lazy youth of today, seen in the middle of the modern city.

  • We see the upper-body of a businessman walking past the lower-body of another man also wearing a suit. We see the passer-by in a shirt and tie but only two hands, legs and trousers up to the waist of the sunbather, the rest of his upper-body is obscured by the angle of the lens. It is a witty perspective, leading us to believe that the two men are the same person. It is high-summer and lunchtime in the City of London, England, where workers exit their offices to lap up the welcome sunshine during a rare city heatwave that many take advantage of by lying on steps and benches, while fully-dressed in their work clothes.

Mercury was the first competitor to BT, and although it proved only moderately successful at challenging their dominance, it was to set the path for new communication companies to attempt the same. In 1997, Mercury ceased to exist as a brand with its amalgamation into the operations of Cable & Wireless Communications and totally exited from the telecommunications business by 1999.

The eldest is a teenager of approximately 17 and is holding his youngest brother who is still only 12 months-old. The third boy is biting his lip while looking to the viewer, more anxiously than the other two. He is possibly 14 but both the elder lads wear identically-designed jumpers that cut across the throat to allow their clean white shirts and ties to remain visible. Apart from the young child, the elders share the same dark hair colour but genetically, they share one chromosome that has given them heavy eyebrows, a family trait. This was taken on Kodachrome film stock in the spring of 1961 so the look and feel of the image is dated with wonderfully muted colours that this Kodak film offered to consumers in the early 60s.

  • "Homo erectus." At the exact moment that a young human being walks for the first time, an eleven month-old girl infant conquers her fear and takes her first tentative upright unaided steps. After months of building lower leg strength by pushing and leaning against household objects, she now leaves the protective hands of a delighted but nervous mother who relishes the joyous moment of her offspring's great achievement. The girl's legs and hips help propel her forward motion, naturally making her an upright bi-pedal species. This is from a documentary series of pictures about the first year of the photographer's first child Ella. Accompanied by personal reflections and references from various nursery rhymes, this work describes his wife Lynda's journey from expectant to actual motherhood and for Ella - from new-born to one year-old.

  • Grabbing a quiet few moments in an otherwise busy environment, two people lie in long grass near the tall Canary Wharf tower structure a mile away in the background at Dockland's area of East London. On the grassy bank at Mudchute, a city farm on London's Isle of Dogs, England, the two people have been joined on this war summer afternoon by a small goat who is making its way along, munching at the lush vegetation. It is a seemingly rural location but is, in fact, an area of inner-city London, close to major construction projects, transforming Docklands into a major centre for finance and new housing.
