  • Wearing a turban according to the beliefs of the Sikh faith, a Metropolitan police officer helps an Asian lady citizen outside Buckingham Palace, London England UK. At a time when the 'Met' were recruiting members of ethnic minorities to demonstrate their tolerance of other communities, this man is clearly a symbol of how Britain has changed, since the 1960s to a multi-cultural society. Pointing out direction to help the lady find her way, the officer proudly wears his turban of his religion.

  • A couple of mixed-race have put their heads through the apertures made in a painting that depicts Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, on the Palace Pier at Brighton, on the south coast of England. The faces peep through this traditional attraction that few can resist, even in the 21st century. The man's face looks disturbingly incongruous in the place where the Prince Consort's white German character would be. There is a message here of a changing multi-cultural British society where these friends or partners are from other ethnic backgrounds and where mixed-marriages are now commonplace, as opposed to the Victorian era when attitudes to racism and race-relations were vastly different.

  • A multi-ethnic crowd enjoys a heatwave in the Herne Hill lido, south London, England. A mixture of cultural backgrounds and ethnicities celebrate the warm weather together either in the waters or on the poolside concrete. The water is blue and the skin is either white, sunburned pink or black afro-Carribean. The laughter is genuine with these Londoners relishing this local open-air mecca for healthy sun worship. This lido was opened in July 1937, closed in 1990 and after a local campaign was re-opened in 1994. Brockwell Lido was designed by HA Rowbotham and TL Smithson of the London County Council's Parks Department to replace Brockwell Park bathing pond.
