  • A door painted with a high-gloss red finish is closed and a warning sign for privacy is hung to deter outsiders from entering. This briefing room belongs to the elite 'Red Arrows', Britain's prestigious Royal Air Force aerobatic team Lincolnshire, who use these offices as headquarters and administrative centre for the 90-plus displays they perform a year. The pilots' crew room is screened off from visitors and the notice says "Stop, do not enter, briefing in progress" to isolate the serious business of briefing and de-briefing. Performance appraisals before and after a training flight or air show displays are intense. Matters of safety and perfection are discussed so the aviators politely close the door unless visitors have been invited in to hear about the features of the next flight or afterwards, the gentlemanly exchanges providing analysis and frank views.

  • A detail of a shoe shop window that has closed for economic reasons. The window is in Victoria, the area of central London close to the mainline station and has been distempered with a mixture of white emulsion paint and water which prevents outsiders from peering inside, where stock may still be stored. Swirls from the cloth that wiped the paint across the glass has left a chaotic and confusing trace that makes it an almost abstract piece of art made by a disturbed artist. The word Shoe remains in bright red lettering and the single letter M afterwards. ..

  • 'Last Day' is written on a closed taylors business in London, a victim of the UK recession. Reduced prices and services are listed on the glass with a poster urging customers to grab a bargain. Around a recession-bled Britain, high-street businesses have been going bust in their thousands. Britain has now endured eight recessions since the Second World War. No two recessions are alike, and that applies to the current slowdown also. It has been caused by a shock to the availability of credit, a massive build up of debt. The number of people out of work currently stands at almost two million. Given the rate at which the economy is deteriorating this could easily be above three million. From a continuing piece of work about windows and urban messages, the picture is from the project of closed business windows: 'Bust - the Art of Recession'.

  • A male passenger is asleep with his mouth open, leaning his head on a bus window as it passes the background pillars of the Bank of England in the financial district City of London. On the exterior of the bus are the words: "We've got to get this city to work," an advertising slogan used by London Transport to seduce commuters from their cars and back on to public transport which is one of the most expensive world capitals on which to travel by bus, train or underground. This style of bus is a traditional design called a 'Routemaster' which has been in service on the capital's roads since 1954 and is nowadays only seen on heritage routes such as these destination: Victoria, Bond Street, Oxford Street, Holborn and Bank (the Bank of England). From any angle, the bus is easily recognisable as that classic British transport icon. The City of London has a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000. The City of London is a geographically-small City within Greater London, England. The City as it is known, is the historic core of London from which, along with Westminster, the modern conurbation grew. The City's boundaries have remained constant since the Middle Ages but it is now only a tiny part of Greater London. The City of London is a major financial centre, often referred to as just the City or as the Square Mile, as it is approximately one square mile (2.6 km) in area. London Bridge's history stretches back to the first crossing over Roman Londinium, close to this site and subsequent wooden and stone bridges have helped modern London become a financial success.

  • During a fair at the famous Alexandra Palace in north London England, where the first BBC broadcasts were made in the mid-30s, the British Inventors Society (BIS) meet in a stand during a British Invention Show, an expo to help international entrepreneurs to sell their new ideas and concepts. BIS was formed in December 2003. The team that came together includes leading inventors and innovators, academics and entrepreneurs who share a common belief - that invention is the vital spark that drives the world's technology and new orders of wealth creation. But there is no-one at home here, its stand remains unoccupied with vacated seats seen through the open doorway and beneath the plain sign. It is a comical and ironic scene, of unfulfilled ambition and failing innovation.

An art gallery exhibition of Tudor portraits, includes a striking picture of an unknown child seen far right who appears to be crossing a zebra-crossing. It looks like a girl but is in fact a young boy of about nine years of age, confusing our perception of gender in the middle-ages. Also, a white traffic direction arrow points around the road's corner as if indicating the location of Queen Jane. They all float just above ground level maiking an eerie and mystical image.
