  • A rack of quintessentially English 'saucy postcards' are on display in Scarborough, the northern seaside town. Telling jokes to send back to friends and family, they using cartoon characters of buxom women, hen-pecked husbands or sexually-frustrated young men, the humour is bawdy and cheeky - the epitome of seaside holiday kitsch. The best-known saucy seaside postcards were created by Bamforths (founded 1870) and despite the decline in popularity of postcards that are overtly tacky, postcards continue to be a significant economic and cultural aspect of British seaside tourism. In the 1950s, Bamforth postcards were among the most popular of the 18 million items purchased at British resorts.

  • A family relax in late-afternoon sunshine and wood smoke in a quiet field at Woodland Tipi and Yurt Holidays near Little Dewchurch, Herefordshire. We see the sun shining through pine trees and long shadows stretching through the fresh grass where camping seats and a camp-fire is billowing clouds of smoke, just like in the days of cowboys and indians. The holidaymakers are staying in 17 acres of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, experiencing the peace and tranquillity of tipi and yurt camping in their own private, secluded valley - an ever-increasingly popular holiday adventure that is both green and carbon neutral since they are not using electricity for heating or cars to travel. It is also a stress-free lifestyle, away from the pressures of work and urban life, where travellers can unwind safe in the knowledge they are helping the environment.

  • Having just disembarked from a Carnival Cruise ship at the port of Miami, Florida, two tourists carry and pull their baggage along to a waiting coaches that will transport them for onward journeys. Comically they also wear wide sombrero hats bought in Cancun during their vacation around the Gulf of Mexico, the destination of this popular cruise line whose base is Miami. Stitched with garish colours the souvenirs provide shelter from the overhead tropical sun though the woman of this couple chooses to hang hers over a shoulder and keeps her original hat on her head. This may be the couples' honeymoon or just a special annual holiday away from the kids or a humdrum lifestyle where the weather is far from the intensity of Florida, a favourite resort for Americans not liking foreign travel.

  • At the famous Butlins holiday camp in the Somerset town of Minehead, a poolside lifeguard overlooks the main pool from an overhead bridge. Behind him a monorail transports holidaymakers around the resort. Wearing the large letter B for Butlins on his red vest, the young lad sucks on his whistle held between his lips and prominently, the words 'Made in England' have been tattooed on his left shoulder - as if a statement for his patriotic ideals but also for those of Butlins - an institution for the British working classes who after the war had the opportunity to spend their summers at special resorts in seaside towns that provided entertainment and fun. Butlins and other camp businesses went into decline when the masses preferred Spanish vacations but have since been revived as travel costs have again soared and holidays at home are once again popular.

  • Crowds of visitors and locals gather on the terrace of an Ocean Drive cafe in Miami Beach. It is early evening and we see the blurred people moving about over the picture during a time-exposure of a few seconds. The colours of ambient neon lights that these streets are well-known for have become very vivid with bright pinks and reds a main feature of this scene. A menu board listing cocktail drinks prices stands on the sidewalk. Candles have been lit in glass jars on table tops. Ghostly, blurred Palm trees sway about in the coastal breeze against the fading sky of early evening. This is a vibrant district of tropical Miami, Florida. The place to hang-out and be noticed. Glowing pinks and blues are vivid in this scene where beautiful people and expensive cars cruise along slowly, each parading bodywork and personality.

Taxpayers footed the £10m bill for non-religious elements, which largely angered a nation still reeling from the financial crisis. Pope Benedict XVI is the head of the biggest Christian denomination in the world, some one billion Roman Catholics, or one in six people. In Britain there are about five million Catholics but only a quarter of Catholics regularly attend Sunday Mass and some churches have closed owing to spending cuts.

A charging station, also called an electric recharging point and EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) supplies electricity for the recharging of electric vehicles (including plug-in hybrids). • Theodore Kyriakou is seen in his Real Greek restaurant in Hoxton, East London. He smiles to the view dressed in chef's apron and with a pen behind his ear. This Greek-born chef once served in the military but realised his ambition to cook by coming to London and eventually being the co-owner of Livebait, the renowned London fish restaurant chain. In 1999, he finally opened a restaurant specialising in the kind of food his mother used to make. The Real Greek was in business, recreating many of the dishes he remembered, he introduced authentic Greek cuisine to a new audience. Kyriakou's parents ran a deli in Athens. His mother, a natural cook, didn't follow recipes, though many of her dishes are influenced by a 2,000-year-old cookbook, the Deipnosophistai by Athenaeus. She still gets calls from her son to check facts.

Midnight of that day signified the end of British rule and the transfer of legal and financial authority back to China. From this famous ferry terminal that protrudes out into the busy waters of this colony's harbour from the Kowloon side of the territory. • English Falmouth Estuary oysters have become highly sought-after around European restaurants and we see a freshly-caught specimen still in its shell after being landed from a traditional Falmouth antique working sail boat (fishing without mechanical power is a rule on this local fishery) that still dredge harvested oysters from the river bed using traditional methods unchanged since Victorian times. The fisherman's muddy fingers can be seen lifting (or shuck) the crustacean slightly from the shell with an old oyster knife to display this wild, native Fal oyster which is known for its distinctive sweet, fresh and delicate flavour.
