  • A fishermen looks at rope, nets and tackle in his home port of Tarbert on the western Scottish Mull of Kintyre, a quiet community in the western Isles. Inhaling on his pipe, the middle-aged man is surrounded by the equipment that keeps his fishing business at sea to prive him with a livelihood. The boat is rusty, having seen many miles on inland seas around the western isles, the edge of the Atlantic, dependent of fisheries policy and EU quotas that dictate how much they're allowed to catch per day/per week.

  • Two fishermen return to their home port of Tarbert on the western Scottish Mull of Kintyre. Looking towards the quay that will receive their boat called Prospector and where they are to unload their catch of shrimp, one man is the skipper and he steers the vessel from the wheelhouse while his partner at sea, wears chest-high waders and matching rubber gloves that can handle fish and sea creatures they drag up from the Atlantic waters. The boat has its identifying letters and number on its hull TT25 as well as on the life-ring it carries by law. The men probably support their families and so are the breadwinners - their livelihoods dependent of fisheries policy and EU quotas that dictate how much they're allowed to catch per day/per week. But they are safe after a period at sea and appear happy to have returned with a catch to sell.

  • In a narrow street in Florence, a parking attendant stops to check the windscreen (windshield) of a Fiat 500 car. Squeezed into a space that only a car of this length can occupy, the lady warden bends to inspect the owner's city permit. Traffic police in Florence issue approximately 90 tickets every minute, 1,253 tickets a day so a motorist in Florence receives a traffic violation every 40 seconds, according to official figures. Ticket fines average about 140 euro per motorist bringing about 52 million to city hall each year, making it one of Italy's most heaviest fined cities. Officials note that the money entering the municipal budget through traffic fines has tripled in the last 10 years. The Fiat 500 (Cinquecento) designed by Dante Giacosa was produced by Fiat between 1957 and 1975.

  • A class of schoolboys accompanied by their teachers play on the shingle at the water's edge in the south coast seaside town of Brighton. The East Pier is resplendent with amusement rides and attractions that populate its long structure, jutting out into the calm English Channel beyond which is the French coast further south. The children are still in their school shirts, shorts and ties but have taken off their shoes and socks to frolic and enjoy some precious fresh-air and the freedom that childhood brings. According to British legal requirements, schoolchildren on away day visits must have accompanying adults with a ratio of 1:xx though it appears this group's quota is less with two teachers per 28 boys.
