  • A businessman stands over a Victorian-style shoe-shiner in a corner of Leadenhall Market in the City of London. His black shoe is resting on a small brass plinth for the leather to be buffed up with the help of Kiwi polish and the efficient speed of a good brushing technique with the final stage being a dusting to bring the best reflective shine. Their relationship is that of paying-customer and servant and we look downwards from the perspective of the wealthier man, a superior view that the client feels when paying for such a service. Wearing a red uniform, the shoe-shiner is on bended-knees, his weight resting on a soft, red cushion, protection from the cold, hard pavement while looking down, concentrating on the job in hand.

Three boys and girls dressed in formal evening-wear have been consuming alcohol during the evening and are groping and snogging. The Gatecrasher Ball was an eighties phenomenon conceived by Edward Ormus Sharington Davenport whose parties catered for Public School students. The couple are seen as silhouettes against the natural light of the large plate glass windows. As the aircraft is readied and before the flight's air travellers are called to the departure gate, the young man and woman put their heads imagining what new things they will see as their airliner is about to transport them to experience new cultures and possibly a new life. In the background, we see other jets that are parked in their respective jetties across the main movement area, the apron. It is early evening and we see the blurred people moving about over the picture during a time-exposure of a few seconds. The colours of ambient neon lights that these streets are well-known for have become very vivid with bright pinks and reds a main feature of this scene. A menu board listing cocktail drinks prices stands on the sidewalk. Candles have been lit in glass jars on table tops. Ghostly, blurred Palm trees sway about in the coastal breeze against the fading sky of early evening. This is a vibrant district of tropical Miami, Florida. The place to hang-out and be noticed. Glowing pinks and blues are vivid in this scene where beautiful people and expensive cars cruise along slowly, each parading bodywork and personality.

Packaging, foodstuffs and general waste has been tossed away on this otherwise beautiful place, north of the capital Male. Unfortunately, the practice of tossing away one's rubbish is a normal practice in this culture, the local people selfishly unconcerned about the future of their habitat and the health of their community. Only a few miles from Meedu are islands that serve as holiday resorts where families from Europe travel by air for the perffect vacation - unaware that fly-tipping is so widespread that it threatens this nation's worldwide status as a paradise on earth..

From the top we see prizes for Reserve Champions then those for 1st prize, then second, third and runners-up at the very bottom. Such accolades are won and lost by fractions of a second but their importance is remembered for years afterwards as young girls desperately practice to improve their equestrian skills. A huge commitment is needed by the girls and their parents who spend great deals of money and time for these treasured prizes which can be won or lost by fractions of seconds or single points. Those that fail to win go home feeling empty-handed or perhaps cheated out of victory and glory. Those who win hang them on bedroom walls for years to come.

As the new head-quarters of the EU and an administrative home to the Members of European Parliament (MEPs), it is a contemporary architectural symbol of infuence and modernity. We see the man walking towards an open atrium. The viewer can see three floors though there are many more out of sight and on two of the levels there are TV screens with the stars denoting the number of member states at that time. The interior is grid-like with warm and inviting lighting, making for a productive environment in which office workers can feel comfortable when dealing with European political business.

After initial selection, 7,000 are accepted for further tests from which 700 are sent down here to Pokhara in the shadow of the Himalayas. Only 160 of the best boys succeed in the flight to the UK. The 50kg carcass has been swimming across the Indian Ocean non-stop since birth and just line-caught by freelance boat crews who share profits for only high-quality fish that passes stringent health tests. The tuna has been in ice since being landed at sea to keep a low-temperature body core so the workers cut out the prime flesh as quickly as possible before boxing the resulting chunks of steak for export by air to Europe and in particular for customers such as UK's Sainsbury's supermarket. The filleting is performed by Sri Lankan ex-fishermen and widowers, having lost their families during the Tsunami. Using sharp knives, they skillfully remove valuable meat and throw the rest.

  • Mural by the artist known as Stik, painted on a wall at Push Studios, Blackwater Street, East Dulwich. Stik people, although androgenous and constructed from simple shapes, are nevertheless capable of conveying complex body language and emotion. These themes of human emotion and expression are infused in Stiks brightly coloured street art. Stik, the street artist, himself was homeless for a period and ideas surrounding human vulnerability are also detectable in his art. Stik has been creating Stik people around London for over ten years
