  • A confusing pair of street signs showing two of the 71 Peachtree street and road names known in Atlanta. It is often joked that half of the streets in Atlanta are named Peachtree, and the other half have five names to make up for it. While "Peachtree" alone always refers to this street, there are 71 streets in Atlanta with a variant of "Peachtree" in their name. The first Peachtree was a Creek Indian village on the Chattahoochee River called Standing Peachtree. An army outpost built nearby took the name Fort Peachtree. From this has come a forest of Peachtrees. In Margaret Mitchell's epic Civil War romance Gone With the Wind, Scarlett O'Hara lives on various points of Peachtree Street along the novel.

  • An old City of London street sign for Poultry EC2 beneath a rusting police bylaws sign on a late 1980s brick wall. Before the older signage was replaced in the mid-1990s for more modern architecture, these signs will have disappeared or available through vintage auctions. Poultry is a short street in the City of London. It is an eastern continuation of Cheapside, between Old Jewry and Mansion House Street, near Bank junction. It takes its name, like other medieval roads nearby such as Milk Street and Bread Street, from the various produce once sold at Cheapside, meaning "market-place" in Old English. The street gave its name to a prison, Poultry Compter, once located there.

  • Moving fast past a farmhouse building on a busy UK A road, unseen traffic leaves its light trails on an otherwise dark winter night near the giant DIRFT warehouse logistics park in Daventry, Northamptonshire England. Some rooms are lit in this remote residence which show signs of occupation. Red tail lights from cars, lorries and trucks streak by with tall traces of container traffic leaves light on the picture, diagonally leaving their mark. It is a very busy highway on which to own a home but this infrastructure is a vital route that keeps Britain's logistics moving across the country 24/7.

  • On a street in Macau (also Macao) in the Chinese Special Economic Region (SER), we see the tall stack of cardboard on the back of a bicycle. Its partly-obscured rider and owner has one foot placed on the bike's pedal while his right arm has firm hold of the pile of materials to prevent it from toppling over. In the background we see the signs of many local businesses, their Chinese characters seen clearly on the sides of buildings as pedestrians walk on the pavements. Administered by Portugal until 1999, Macau was the oldest European colony in China, dating back to the 16th century. The administrative power over Macau was transferred to the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1999, 2 years after Hong Kong's own handover. Macau's name is derived from A-Ma-Gau or Place of A-Ma

  • Deep in the West Sussex countryside are a group of Territorial Army soldiers. They have stopped in a remote lane to consult their Ordnance Survey maps during a day of learning to navigate with maps and compasses. Over a weekend learn the skills needed to be part-time army volunteers known as the TA and have far to go. Together they look at maps and argue where they should go next. Looking on with mild amusement is their senior officer who accompanies them to assess their leadership skills and initiative. Behind them a road sign tells them the road ahead is a dead end to traffic. It is a very English summer landscape of lush green vegetation and grasses. The TA work as part of Britain's reserve land forces. Together with the Regular Army they provide support at home and overseas including Iraq and Afghanistan. .

The Dual carriageway has been completely submerged to approximately 1.5 metres and only the road sign with its directional arrow is visible above the surface which is rippling in a faint breeze. The men in red and yellow kayaks look inexperienced in boating activities and their clothing is not suitable for water sports. Even so, they are speeding down the highway that is otherwise empty of all other vehicles and they have the water and space to themselves without the fear of collision.

Turning to look at the viewer, the lighter shaded brown dog on unknown breed, is held on its leash as a woman pauses to check passing traffic outside the Royal Academy in London's Westminster. The sign actually refers to the dropping of litter in the capital's streets but echoes both the habit of owners to sometimes allowing their animals to foul the pavements - but also rhyming with the yellow number plate on the car top left.

  • On the eve of transfer of law in Hong Kong from the UK to China, construction workers in Central Hong Kong carry on their tasks during a monsoonal rain shower on the last day of British rule. Some are dressed in yellow waterproof coats and hard hats, we see a British-style sign warning drivers of Men at Work resembling a man holding an umbrella. Lastly, on the right another man on a wall, also holding an brolley. In the foreground a car park sign states that the space is full in red letters and a local authority sign saying "Working for a better environment" is written in Chinese and English lettering. The transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to China, referred to as "The Handover" occurred at midnight on June 30, 1997, signifying the end of British rule, and the transfer of legal and financial authority back to China.

With a passing red London bus in the road behind, it is a sunny, trouble-free day in the capital. But the bank was forced to shut its doors by the Bank of England amid fraud allegations and the closure lost about 20 local councils up to £30m in investments. (BCCI) was a major international bank founded in 1972 by Agha Hasan Abedi, a Pakistani financier. The Bank was registered in Luxembourg with head offices in Karachi and London. Within a decade BCCI touched its peak. It operated in 78 countries, had over 400 branches, and had assets in excess of US$20 billion, making it the 7th largest private bank in the world by assets.
