  • Two businessmen - one younger than the other, who may be his superior - pace through the Broadgate Estate during a break in the working day in the City of London, the capital's financial centre - otherwise called the Square Mile. Seen as they walk fast under a covered alleyway, the warm sun strikes their faces while they are deep in conversation - perhaps discussing a strategy while fetching a local coffee. Deep shadow allows us to focus in on their dark suits, their pink skin and the similarly orange colour of the strong vertical columns that form this urban architecture completed in the Bishopsgate development of the mid-1980s. Broadgate is a large, 32 acres (129,499 m2) office and retail estate in the City of London, owned by British Land and managed by Broadgate Estates.

  • A young professional couple lie in the sun and share a humerous moment. They sit with their backs to intricate and delicate tiling which depict the Spanish province of Coruna, at the Plaza de España, Seville, Andalucia, Spain. The lady is sitting with her partner's head in her lap, indicating romance and contentedness as she suppresses a giggle. They are both lit by strong sunshine and gives the impression of a perfect moment in their loving relationship. This semicircular enclosure was built by Aníbal González, the great architect of Sevillian regionalism, for the Ibero-American exposition held in 1929.

  • "Flight to Portugal." An eleven month-old child stands on a restaurant table and is held by her mother whilst holidaying on the Algarve, southern Portugal. Caught with side-lit flash and ambient Mediterranean evening light, her with arms and fingers are outstretched and the balancing infant girl who is learning to stand on her own before attempting to walk, pretends to fly in mid-air, relishing a sense of space and freedom. We see the experience of an adult encouraging a developing human being with the confidence to stand erect with back straight. This is from a documentary series of pictures about the first year of the photographer's first child Ella. Accompanied by personal reflections and references from various nursery rhymes, this work describes his wife Lynda's journey from expectant to actual motherhood and for Ella - from new-born to one year-old.

  • The unrecognisable driver of a number 38 red London bus which is passing between sunlight and shadow, gives a thumbs up signal to another road-user in the streets of Victoria. On the side of the vehicle's bodywork are the destinations the 38 route passes: Hackney, Dalston Junction, Angel, Piccadilly Circus and Victoria Station. The bus is a traditional design called a Routemaster which has been in service on the capital's roads since 1954 and is nowadays only seen on heritage routes. From any angle, the bus is easily recognisable as that classic British transport icon.
