  • Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher is seen dancing with a Tory Party official during the 1990 Conservative Party conference in Blackpool. Thatcher is wearing a favourite black and red ball gown and is the centre of attention for delegates and media. She is seen with Joy, Babs and Teddie - otherwise known as the Beverly Sisters entertainers, the longest surviving vocal group of all time without a change in the line up. The sisters kick their legs up in the air dancing the Charleston (though not in unison) but Mrs Thatcher in her long dress declines and merely stands straight-legged. They are on the dance floor and Tory party officials are enjoying the moment as their PM relishes the moment.

  • The Mr Chelsea Body Beautiful talent competition is held on the Kings Road in London. Entrants are handsome males and girls showing their muscles and well-trimmed bodies. We see hairy chests, pectorals and biceps on-show by these young exhibitionists who parade themselves in the open-air. Slightly behind them there are also two elderly ladies looking like sisters or perhaps twins. They were once beautiful themselves and sit eagerly on a bench against a wall peering at the handsome young men, wishing they were young again. One holds a walking stick and the other grasps a bottle of wine. It is a scene of young and old, of youth and ageing beauty.

It is bright from window light that shines down on the floor of their South London home where the two siblings play. Her brother is learning to lie on his front, using developing muscles in his neck and back to hold his head up towards a dangling toy. His sister enjoys having her own space and considers her innocent brother to be a little too close for her own comfort. • A two and half year-old girl meets her sleeping baby brother for the first time on his actual birthday. In the maternity ward at Kings College Hospital, Camberwell, London, the child reaches out with the maternal instincts of her gender to touch the fragile infant who is wrapped up in an NHS blanket in a cot that was wheeled directly from the birthing room a few hours beforehand. The baby boy is oblivious to his sister's affection and attention but he is healthy and already thriving before waking up for his first feeds. • A tall son in the middle accompanies his mother (l) and sister (R) in the Olympic Park during the London 2012 Olympics. • A little boy wearing a blue jump suit stands on the pavement outside his house holding the handlebars of a favourite matching blue coloured tricycle. He looks upwards towards the viewer slightly bemused about having his picture taken by his father who looks down from a standing position. Meanwhile, the boys sister towers above him dressed in a bright red coat and clean white gloves and short white socks. Alongside her is a friend also wearing gloves and a knee-length skirt but we see only their lower bodies and not their faces so they are unrecognisable - an older sibling and a girl friend. It is the summer of 1960 and while the red is vibrant, the blues and greens are more muted in this Kodachrome film which has a wonderful magenta colour cast in the mid-tones reminiscent of the classic days of early photography when shifts in color gave a faded look

  • A young three year-old boy has his hair cut by his mother in the family South London home. Lifting his hair with her fingers, the mum snips with a pair of scissors. While lifting her left elbow to gain the right angle of her cutting, we see her holding a comb in her mouth. The boy's elder sister looks on offering unhelpful comments which will eventually lead to an exchange of unkind words between the siblings while their mother concentrates hard on not making a mess of the kid's haircut. • Two children lay down on the ground at the foot of a solid dry stone wall, up in the hills of the area of northern England known as the Dales, near Settle, Yorkshire. The two brother and sister have their faces against the rocks that serve as boundaries and enclosures for farmers and land owners. These walls were built by tradesmen called Wallers, a dying tradition and skill. Dry stone walls are constructed from stones without any mortar to bind them together. The wall is held up by special construction methods and by its weight. The stones must be carefully selected by shape to ensure that they have a large contact surface area with their neighbours and so do not slip. They are a legacy of the movement towards enclosure of common farming and grazing land as English society moved away from medieval feudalism. Model released.

  • Peering through a hole in the huge metal door of an old Victorian tunnel, two children stand on the place where a railway once emerged from this brick entrance - a link between nearby Dulwich and the Crystal Palace. Now the London Wildlife Trust maintains this once-wild wood at Sydenham, South London, England, which has reverted to forest again, 40 years after (one of the first the electrified railways) line fell silent. The brother and sister look through to see if there is light at the end of this tunnel but it has long been bricked up, sealed to deter vandals and danger to all. It is Autumn and the leaves on the beech and oak trees are about to fall, adding to the already organic deep forest floor. • A schoolboy of Afro-Caribbean descent stands looking confused on a platform at Victoria mainline station in central London. The young lad looks smart in a new school uniform of cap, blazer, long trousers and polished black shoes. We might guess that it is the start of a new academic year and that he is about to attend a new school for which he needs to take a train on his own. His mother and younger and older sister are also to the far right of the picture so he may go with his elder sibling carrying a multi-coloured umbrella and a bright blue briefcase containing his lunch and a few items needed for lessons. Surrounded by adult commuters, some of who look on with mild amusement, also make await their train from the city out of town. Mostly, people mind their own business and what is a special day for the boy will become a much-travelled route.

  • Two children ride a merry-go-round on the sea front at Southport, Merseyside, northern England. Hanging on to the carousel's horse, the youngest child is a boy who grips the pole as he whizzes through along while an older girl who is possibly his sister, leans forward as she enjoys the circular speed. The background blurs but we see the bright lights above the pier's amusement arcade entrance (the second longest pier in the UK) but it is a chilly winter, an off-season day with few people about on this chilly day nearing Christmas.

  • Sister Bernadette, Head Teacher of Viego Fedelis in Sth London awaits arrival of Hyde Park rally of Pope during Pope Benedict XVI's papal tour of Britain 2010, the first visit by a pontiff since 1982. Taxpayers footed the £10m bill for non-religious elements, which largely angered a nation still reeling from the financial crisis. Pope Benedict XVI is the head of the biggest Christian denomination in the world, some one billion Roman Catholics, or one in six people. In Britain there are about five million Catholics but only a quarter of Catholics regularly attend Sunday Mass and some churches have closed owing to spending cuts.
