  • A carer from an elderly peoples' residential home bends down to speak to an old lady who has been taken out for her daily walk in the fresh-air. The lady however cannot walk but seems to be enjoying her daily constitutional from the comfort of her wheelchair that the nursing specialist kindly pushes along a promenade in Frinton-on-Sea in Essex. With her hankie tucked in her sleeve she also seems to be slightly confused as if she might be suffering from a dementia or possibly just old and tired from the hardships after Britain at war. By 2050 the percentage of people worldwide over 65 years will have doubled.

In recent years, more English flags have become more prevalent in a resurgence of national pride and more citizens have come to work dressed with a red and white theme such as ties and shirts, hats or shoes. Anything for a little fun in such gloomy times. This anonymous trio have all agreed to dress identically and enjoy an early warm spell of good weather to show-off their dress sense and patriotism.

They are all on their way from London's Waterloo mainline station to Ascot in Berkshire for Ladies Day during the Royal Ascot racing week. In the foreground, a lad wearing a dark suit and yellow tie tugs on his shirt sleeve in a confident and assertive manner before approaching the girls to say hello. He and another man are looking amorously down towards the seated females who are dressed in summer skirts and tops, in readiness for a warm day at the races. Royal Ascot is held every June and is one of the main dates on the sporting calendar and social season.

Another younger person has turned around to see what is happening but is also holding up his hand to other birds  none of the others are accepting the free meal. The summer afternoon sky is filled with bird life but clear of clouds and is a deep coastal blue which echoes the reaching shirt sleeve.

  • A portrait of a baker holding yet to be baked dough for Ciabatta bread. Standing by trays of ready to bake loaves, the man is of African or afro-Caribbean origin, clearly made out in the white of his uniform and mix, his white baker’s uniform’s sleeves also spattered with flour. Ciabatta (literally "carpet slipper") is an Italian white bread made with wheat flour and yeast. The loaf is somewhat elongated, broad and flattish. Its name is the Italian word for slipper. There are many variations of ciabatta. Ciabatta in its modern form was developed in 1982. Since the late 1990s it has been popular across Europe and in the United States, and is widely used as sandwich bread.

  • Boys from a Scottish scout group sit and in the departures concourse of Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5. All wearing traditional kilts favoured by the Scots, the lads are en-route between Switzerland and Scotland after a week's international jamboree in the Alps. Their sleeves are filled with the stitched badges of past achievements and one reads a newspaper while the others pass away the time before their flight by watching other passengers. The kilt's are alternately red and green and historically, relate to their wearers old family clans. From writer Alain de Botton's book project "A Week at the Airport: A Heathrow Diary" (2009).

  • Chief Technician Kerry Griffiths is a with the 'Red Arrows', Britain's Royal Air Force aerobatic team, the elite 'Red Arrows', Britain's prestigious Royal Air Force aerobatic team. In camouflaged military green jacket, large forearms and rolled-up sleeves, he oversees the loading of spares and personal effects into a C-130 Hercules aircraft before the two-day journey from RAF Scampton to RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. Surrounded by heavy-duty flight-spares, survival equipment boxes and a tyre for a Hawk jet aircraft, the Hercules looms large in the overcast sky. The team complete their winter training schedule in Cyprus. The Red Arrows pilots fly their own jet aircraft to air shows but when requiring the support of ground crew  they borrow a transporter to fly behind the main airborne squadron. 10 tons of spares and personal effects are shipped for a six-week stay.
