  • On a fine spring day, we see the ornate fountain, ornamental central garden and beyond, the grand terraced properties of Wellington Square, SW3 in the borough of Kensington & Chelsea, London England. The pristine houses are all identically painted white, their perfect iron railings all black as are their heavy gloss-painted doors. Wellington Square is off the King's Road Chelsea and was built around 1830: Named after the 1st Duke of Wellington (the heroic Commander-in-Chief of the British Army - most famously at Waterloo in 1815 - then a Tory politician and in 1834, temporary Prime Minister).

  • On the corner of Draycott Place SW1 and Cardogan Gardens SW3 is Stuart House, a red brick property boasting clipped vegetation set in a brick window recess that suggests that at one time, a window was removed and filled in with more brick - its mortar and pointing is a different spacing. Strong spring sunshine is almost overhead making hard shadows on the recess and on the well-painted black gloss paintwork on the railings. Stuart House was constructed in 1880. It is a large red-brick detached house in the 'Queen Anne' style. Cadogan Gardens SW3, is an 1890s development between the King's Road and Sloane Street.

  • In soft mid-morning spring sunshine, we see rising up from street-level the 5-storey houses with Doric columns in London's famous Eaton Square. Bathed in mid-morning spring sunshine, shadows from nearby trees are cast over the cream-coloured pillars of these exclusive and classically-designed properties in Belgravia. Shrubs and plants can be seen growing on the terraced balconies and all the painted surfaces are pristine. Eaton Square is one of London's three garden squares built by Thomas Cubitt and the Grosvenor family when they developed the main part of Belgravia from 1826 until 1855. Belgravia attracts actors, politicians, ambassadors, big-budget bankers, traders and Prime Ministers like Neville Chamberlain and Stanley Baldwin at number 93.

  • A detail of a 1930s house gable in the Essex seaside town of Frinton-on-Sea. Well-painted white woodwork looks fresh and clean despite it being 90 years old. The property is shown as Essex House with the date of its construction as 1936. A gable is the generally triangular portion of a wall between the edges of a sloping roof. The shape of the gable and how it is detailed depends on the structural system used (which is often related to climate and availability of materials) and aesthetic concerns. Thus the type of roof enclosing the volume dictates the shape of the gable. A gable wall or gable end more commonly refers to the entire wall, including the gable and the wall below it.

  • Reflected in the surrounding pond, we see the glorious Victoria Memorial, the beautiful marble structure built by the British still during the days of the colonial Indian Raj. Couples and families gather in the Memorial's grounds to experience the cool air of late-afternoon near the white, domed building. Built between 1906 and 1921, it is a majestic white marble building at the southern end of the Maidan (literally meaning open field, the largest urban park, a large expansive plain in central Calcutta city. Nowadays it is a museum and group activities are being discouraged due to the fears that pollution will damage this fine structure that honours Queen Victoria, then Empress of India.

  • On a hot afternoon on Calcutta's Maidan, an Indian lady catches a frisbee disc in both hands in front of the glorious Victoria Memorial, the beautiful marble structure built by the British still during the days of the colonial Indian Raj. The lady is lit with golden light and her bottle green sari stands out from a background tree. She grimaces as she stretches to hold on to the frisbee and there are many hundreds of families and groups in the background, nearer to the white, domed building. • The shadow of a crane is spread across the concrete surface of a lift shaft with their floors marked vertically at 5 Broadgate, designed by Make Architects which will become the new home of UBS in London when fully occupied. Rising towards the sky is the tower-like structure with blue numbers of future storeys, stencilled on to the grey reinforced concrete. There will be 12 floors to this office complex of 700,000 sq feet (66,890 sq m), scheduled to be completed in 2016. The City of London is the capital's historic centre first occupied by the Romans then expanded during following centuries until today, it has a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000.
