  • Displayed in the window of a traditional Chinese medicine shop in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, are the labels and plastic bags containing some of the 500 Chinese herbs that are in use today in Eastern herbal remedies, of which 250 or so are very commonly used in the treatment of ailments and diseases. Rather than being prescribed individually, single herbs are combined into formulas designed to adapt to specific needs of individual patients. Herbal formulas contain from 3 to 25 herbs or animal parts, some sourced from endangered species. As with diet therapy, each herb has one or more of the five flavours/functions and one of five "temperatures" ("Qi") (hot, warm, neutral, cool, cold). After the herbalist determines the energetic temperature and functional state of the patient's body, they prescribe a mixture of herbs tailored to balance disharmony.

  • A shopper picks up purchases in yellow Selfridges bags in London's West End. The bags are one of the capital's most striking symbols of British retail and are seen across the city as splashes of vibrant colour on the otherwise drab pavements and streets. The economic recovers appears to have begun in earnest and retail therapy has attracted these Londoners to the West End, away from the larger, warmer shopping Malls on the outskirts of town. Selfridges was founded by Harry Gordon Selfridge. The flagship store in London's Oxford Street is the second largest shop in the UK (after Harrods) and was opened on 15 March 1909.

  • Window display figure of a traditional Chinese herbalist's shop in London's West End. The shadows of known cures such as anxiety, depression and hay fever are reflected on the body of this male miniature. One of Chinese herbology's four natures is the degree of yin and yang, namely cold (extreme yin), cool, warm and hot (extreme yang). The patient's internal balance of yin and yang is taken into account when the herbs are selected. Medicinal herbs of "hot", yang nature are used when the person is thought to be suffering from internal cold that requires to be purged, or when the patient is believed to have a general cold constituency. Sometimes an ingredient is added to offset the extreme effect of one herb.

Matching the stance of the practitioner wearing a blue tunic who puts his weight forward into the pressure point of the lumbar area, a young mother holds on to the pushchair of her young child. There are many different methods in Anma, including massage, acupressure, stretching But it is important to note that there are many different versions of anma. Many massage therapists in the west have adapted this old technique to work with their more modern methods. Most common is the stretching, pulling, and pulling of affected areas. This is done to try and achieve the release of muscle tension that in return will help to encourage the proper blood flow and lymph flow.

  • During a journey into America's hinterlands, days after the September 11th attacks in New York and Washington DC, eccentric New Yorkers gather at the city's Armory to offer help and support by handing our fluffy bunnies to passers-by. The streets between 66th and 67th Streets, in the heart of Manhattan's Upper East Side, DNA samples were taken at the Armory so human remains might be identified. It was therefore a point of focus for those with missing relatives who attached thousands of posters to walls with pictures and messages to loved-ones in the hope of being reunited. Emotions were running high and many citizens offered spiritual aide such as food and drink. In outpourings of grief, anger and patriotic rhetoric, flags were flown as never before as America sought to express their emotions and unity..

  • At the foot of a tree located opposite the charred Pentagon building days after the September 11th attacks in New York and Washington DC, children have made a makeshift memorial by placing a garland around the model of a military B52 bomber, a NASA space Shuttle, portrait of a smiling president George W Bush and their own interpretation of the attacks on the Twin Towers - with airliners flying towards those symbols of capitalism. Icons of American technology and patriotic success lie on the ground here beneath the tree near Arlington military Cemetery. In a show of unity, many of those gathered on the grass to view the damage done by terrorists worked for the government or defence organisations, their Hawkish rhetoric appearing to suggest heavy-handed retaliation on those held responsible.

As if they are pedestrians about cross a busy highway, it is an incongruous scene of irony. Poundbury is the visionary model village that Charles, Prince of Wales sought to develop in 1993 as a successful and pioneering town near Dorchester, built on land owned by his own Duchy of Cornwall, challenging otherwise poor post-war trends in town planning and to some extent following the New Urbanism concept from the US except that the design influences are European.

Basking on his back, the man lies with arms outstretched, the warm buoyant water making him weightless. he has found inner-peace and there is restful tranquility here, where surface-tension allows the bather to unwind completely in this idyllic place on the French Cote d'Azur riviera. Behind his head unoccupied sun loungers are facing the Mediterranean Sea, its clear horizon empty except for a lone yacht that sails along the ocean coast. The colour of both sea and pool are the same on this overcast day that allows us to experience a more muted tone to the scene, also allowing us to see the contiunation of natural waters, as if they run from one to the other.
