  • Three women admire Tudor portraits of Elizabethan nobility in Tate Britain, London. On the left is a portrait of Mary Kytson, of Lady Darcy of Chiche, later, Lady Rivers, British School, circa 1590. In the middle is a painting attributed to Marcus Gheeraerts II of an Unknown Lady circa 1595. The three ladies however are admiring the picture of Captain Thomas Lee, also by Gheeraerts II, 1594. Tate first opened its doors to the public in 1897 with one site, displaying a small collection of British artworks. Today Tate has four major sites and the national collection of British art from 1500 to the present day and international modern and contemporary art, which includes nearly 70,000 artworks.

The salon d'Hercule (also known as the Hercules Salon or the Hercules Drawing Room) is on the first floor of the Château de Versailles and connects the chapel and the North Wing of the château with grand appartement du roi. Beginning in 1724, work on the salon d'Hercule recommenced. Louis XV commissioned architect Jacques Gabriel, marbrier Claude-Félix Tarlé, and sculptors Jacques Verberckt and François-Antoine Vassé to complete the room

  • The Sense of Light, 2001 by the artist Christopher Le Brun RA (Royal Academy) in situ installed at the United Reform Church, Camberwell. The Sense of Sight is a bronze relief, an edition of 3. Christopher Mark Le Brun was born in Portsmouth in 1951. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art (DFA) in London from 1970-74 and at Chelsea School of Art (MA) from 1974-75. Le Brun has exhibited in many significant surveys of international art, including Nuova Immagine, Milan 1981, Zeitgeist Berlin 1982, Avant-garde in the Eighties, Los Angeles 1987 Contemporary Voices, Museum of Modern Art New York 2005 and Watercolour Tate Britain 2011. From 1987-88 he received the D.A.A.D. award from the German government, living and working in Berlin for a year. He was elected to the Royal Academy in 1996 and in 2000 became the Academy's first Professor of Drawing. Le Brun is a former trustee of the Tate, the National Gallery, and the Dulwich Picture Gallery. He is currently a trustee of the Prince's Drawing School. In 2010 he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the University of the Arts London. in 2011 he was elected President of the Royal Academy.

The staircase has seven mahogany carvings by Thomas Nicholls on the newel posts, these representing characters from Alexandre Dumas’s The Three Musketeers. As an example of a late Victorian mansion, it was built for William Waldorf Astor primarily as his state office by one of the foremost neo-Gothic architects of the late nineteenth-century, John Loughborough Pearson. Astor had emigrated to England in 1891 as arguably, the richest man in the world and no expense was spared when work began on Two Temple Place in 1892. Today, the building is owned by the Bulldog Trust and supports the charitable activities of the Trust through exhibitions and events hosted in the building.
