  • Women protesters march through central London as part of an international campaign on the first full day of Donald Trump's presidency, on 21st January 2017, in London, England. They marched from the US embassy in Mayfair, to Trafalgar Square for a rally, held in solidarity with a march in Washington and other cities around the world. Organisers say it highlighted women's rights, which they perceive to be under threat from the new US administration. London organisers announced on stage that between 80,000 and 100,000 people - which included both men and women - had taken part in the rally. (Photo by Richard Baker / In Pictures via Getty Images)

  • Three women pass beneath the sign of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) in central London in 1991. With a passing red London bus in the road behind, it is a sunny, trouble-free day in the capital. But the bank was forced to shut its doors by the Bank of England amid fraud allegations and the closure lost about 20 local councils up to £30m in investments. (BCCI) was a major international bank founded in 1972 by Agha Hasan Abedi, a Pakistani financier. The Bank was registered in Luxembourg with head offices in Karachi and London. Within a decade BCCI touched its peak. It operated in 78 countries, had over 400 branches, and had assets in excess of US$20 billion, making it the 7th largest private bank in the world by assets.

  • Three women admire Tudor portraits of Elizabethan nobility in Tate Britain, London. On the left is a portrait of Mary Kytson, of Lady Darcy of Chiche, later, Lady Rivers, British School, circa 1590. In the middle is a painting attributed to Marcus Gheeraerts II of an Unknown Lady circa 1595. The three ladies however are admiring the picture of Captain Thomas Lee, also by Gheeraerts II, 1594. Tate first opened its doors to the public in 1897 with one site, displaying a small collection of British artworks. Today Tate has four major sites and the national collection of British art from 1500 to the present day and international modern and contemporary art, which includes nearly 70,000 artworks.

  • In a grass-covered car park, two ladies sit on garden chairs adorned with white table cloth. One pours champagne into a glass flute while her girlfriend reaches down to her beloved pet spaniel dog that eagerly licks at a fresh strawberry. The ladies are attending an international polo match between Great Britain and the USA in Windsor Great Park, near Windsor Castle, one of the Queen's official residences. There is a wicker picnic hamper on the grass too, probably containing the couples' lunch. The day is overcast, with threatening clouds behind the party but despite this, they are in a bubbly and excitable mood. Polo at Windsor is held annually and is one of the main dates on the sporting calendar and social season.

  • Dr Safaa Elagib Adam and Maha Faraigon are seated near the window on a flight to attend the first-ever international Conference on Womens' Challenge in Darfur. Discussing conference matters, they sit in a chartered Russian Antonov aircraft during flight to Al Fasher (also spelled, Al-Fashir) in north Darfur where women from remote parts of Sudan gathered to discuss peace and political issues. The short flight saves them a hazardous five-day drive by road, known for extreme acts of violence by rebels and Janjaweed soldiers.
