  • "Puddle in Oxleas Wood." A six month-old infant looks out from a baby back carrier frame whilst out on a muddy winter jaunt in Oxleas Wood on Shooters Hill, South London. The girl peers out with a fascination for the outdoors from a warm coat wearing a tiny hat and loose-fitting gloves to view the world while perched high-up on her mother's back who carries her child on the chilly walk. The bare trees and forested landscape can be imagined from the waterlogged puddle that is out of focus to the right. This is from a documentary series of pictures about the first year of the photographer's first child Ella. Accompanied by personal reflections and references from various nursery rhymes, this work describes his wife Lynda's journey from expectant to actual motherhood and for Ella - from new-born to one year-old.

  • Against the strong spotlight of the Big Top, a ringmaster announces the next act during an afternoon performance by the Gerry Cottle circus in North London. With his top hat perched firmly on his head and holding his microphone, the leader of his troupe smiles confidently and speaks with authority to the unseen audience who eagerly await the skills of acrobats or clowns who are about to enter the ring. In his scarlet red coat and holding a pair of gloves in his other hand, the man is the epitome of showmen - a picture of show businesses and variety, of the presenter from another era.

  • A young boy wearing ear-defenders and dressed in a child's miniature red flying suit is perched on a metal crate of flight spares belonging to the elite 'Red Arrows', Britain's prestigious Royal Air Force aerobatic team. Joshua Lewis is the son of one of the team's electricians Corporal Dave Lewis, and they are both at RAF Scampton in Lincolshire to wave goodbye to the departing Hawk jet aircraft who are leaving for their winter training ground at Akrotiri, Cyprus. Other team-member families have come along to see these famous red aircaft. Most of the team leave the UK for a six-week stint, refining their evolving air display routines and manoeuvres in the clear Mediteranean skies.
