  • From the side of a road in south London, we see a group of naked female mannequins, standing and sitting with furniture on the forecourt of an office supplies business. A clearance sign stands partly-obscured but one's attention is to the physiques of each model that tends to signify whichever the fashion industry has decreed is the 'look' of the decade - whether buxom or skinny - and shop windows are therefore occupied with the clothing shapes of the day. Some women stand in that classic fashion pose, with arms at the side and one leg in front of the other, or sitting with one leg elegantly crossed: All designed to make the clothes they wear look attractive.

  • Four members of the Royal Gurkha Rifles are on tactical manoeuvres on heathland above Farnborough airfield, England. These Nepali-born boys belong to an elite Regiment of the British army. Every year 60,000 boys attend recruiting sessions in villages and towns in the Himalayan Kingdom but only 150 are selected each year to serve on active duty across the world. They fly to the UK for basic soldier training where they learn the skills required for infantry, transport, communications or clerical duties. Their reputation as a fierce but intensely loyal fighting force and many Victoria Crosses were won for bravery during World War 2. Here they are seen cradling modern SA-80 rifles while dressed in camouflaged helmets with oak leaves. The nearest to the camera points his weapon past the viewer with a yellow blank cover attached. .

  • Arranged on a hill with their barrels pointing upwards and lights glowing, weathered Challenger 1 tank crews of the 1st Batallion Royal Tank Regiment are stationary at Tidworth Barracks, England. Their turrets are all pointing to the viewer and the helmet heads of their commanders and drivers can be seen protruding from their respective places. The Royal Tank Regiment is an armoured regiment of the British Army but tanks were first used at Flers in September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme in World War I. Challenger 1 was the main battle tank (MBT) of the British Army from 1983 until superseded by the Challenger 2 in the mid 1990s. Challenger 1 took part in Operation Desert Storm where the Iraqi forces failed to take a single vehicle out of combat while Challenger destroyed roughly 300 Iraqi tanks.

  • Half-way across the Gulf of Mexico, between Miami and Cancun in Mexico, Carnival Cruise's Fun Ship Ecstasy's passengers are on the Sun deck to enjoy the first few days sailing on the tropical seas. One of the ship's photographers has passed around a ship's circular life ring buoy through which one busty blonde lady has posed for a photograph and is about to pass it on to her nearest neighbour. She is wearing a garish pink and yellow bikini and is holding the life-saving device so that only her breasts are showing, obscuring her face. We see the name of the ship, Ecstasy, around the ring and the plastic ropes are falling on the lady's cleavage, forming circles around her bosoms. In the background, another cruise traveller (traveler) wears a straw sun hat and is also sitting on a blue sun lounger. We see exposed, tanned skin and it looks baking hot with the tropical sun at its zenith, directly overhead at mid-day. Carnival was a pioneer in the concept of cheaper and shorter cruises. Its ships are known for their Las Vegas decor and entertainment. The line calls its ships The Fun Ships. The MS Ecstasy is a Fantasy class cruise ship featuring two pools, whirlpools, a variety of dining options, nightclubs, a casino, and duty-free shopping. After Hurricane Katrina, she spent six months in New Orleans serving as quarters for refugees and relief workers. She suffered heavy damage in 1998 after the laundry room in the ship's stern caught fire damaging much of her stern and aft section.

  • A tourist family pose for photos near London's St Paul's Cathedral. Beneath the huge Portland stone walls of this Sir Christopher Wren-designed church, the relatives pose for an older member family member who stands some feet away for a wide photograph. Sir Christopher Wren FRS (1632 - 1723) is one of the most highly acclaimed English architects in history. He used to be accorded responsibility for rebuilding 51 churches in the City of London after the Great Fire in 1666, including his masterpiece, St. Paul's Cathedral, on Ludgate Hill, completed in 1710. The cathedral is built of Portland stone in a late Renaissance style that represents England's sober Baroque.

This fine specimen of a man wears roller-blades and trousers tucked into his skates with a yellow t-shirt with the word Frequency across his pectoral muscles. His shdow appears across the wall and because of the angle, his shape has been greatly exaggerated, his body becoming a much wider, stockier proportion than the reality. He stands with an arm resting high on the wall and the other on his hip, almost in a feminine manner. He is nonetheless the epitome of maleness, of virility with the healthy physique that women adore and other men are jealous of! The sdidewalk pavement arcs around a corner and the wall with its long shadow is a strong diagonal line across the picture, disappearing to the far right.

He stands in the front doorway of his terraced home to celebrate the 50th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day on 6th May 1995. In the week near the anniversary date of May 8, 1945, when the World War II Allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of the armed forces of Germany and peace was announced to tumultuous crowds across European cities, the British still go out of their way to honour those sacrificed and the realisation that peace was once again achieved. Street parties now - as they did in 1945 - played a large part in the country's patriotic well-being.

  • In the weeks before Christmas day on December 25th, the Lord Mayor of London hosts an annual party at his official town hall - the Guildhall - in the historic financial district of the City of London. Inviting Greater London's borough Mayors, they can each invite worthy children for an afternoon's fancy dress party. Two children dressed as Tarzan with a small monkey and a Grenadier Guard with a bearskin, and are seated on the Mayoral throne like two princes in a royal court. The chairs are coated with gold leaf with red cushioned fabric and with the Corporation of London's crest on the top. It looks resplendent and opulent. The two kids are sat looking small in the chairs seemingly made for giants but behind them is another boy dressed as a grey rabbit with floppy ears running past. The Guildhall has been used as a town hall for several hundred years, and is still the ceremonial centre of the City of London. The term Guildhall refers both to the whole building and to its main room, which is a medieval style great hall similar to those at many Oxbridge colleges. The Guildhall complex houses the offices of the Corporation of London and various public facilities. (Greater London also has a City Hall). The great hall is believed to be on the site of an earlier Guildhall, and has large mediaeval crypts underneath. During the Roman period it was the site of an amphitheatre, the largest in Britannia. The City of London is still part of London's city centre, but apart from financial services, most of London's metropolitan functions are centred on the West End. The City of London has a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000.

  • An American expatriate living in Monaco laughs at a joke from an unseen person while standing near her apartment in front of a beach mural on the Avenue Princess Grace. The cartoon character is a puny bather in an old fashioned bathing costume and flippers, showing off a scrawny arm and non-existant bicep. Seen from a low angle, the blonde-haired widow wears sunglasses, a black coat and speckled scarf around her neck, has been living in Monaco for many years and speaks fluent French. We see a smart lady in her middle-age enjoying her retirement in the warm Mediterranean climate.

  • A small group of men are together on the beach just opposite to Ocean Drive on Miami Beach. Two of them are in the foreground and each wear sun glasses, each holding cigars that may be Cuban in origin, a popular source of tobacco leaf in this region of America. They have recently been immersed in the sea and water drips down their rather flabby bodies with the gentleman on the left sucking on his cigar with a belly that expands around his tanned midriff. It is intensely bright, sunny day on the sand, seen behind. Flash has emphasized the water drips and the male sweat and we also see a very clear blue tropical sky.

  • Lit by the bight lights of Times Square in New York City, US flags hang from the scaffolding of a construction site four days after the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11th. Above the Stars and Stripes, we see fashion advertising bllboards showing white American models posed in contemporary couture proving that business and the media works endlessly to provide content and commerce amid the emotional turmoil and horrors of the terrorist attacks. Large white sheets pronounce prayers for the families of victims and to God Bless America.

  • Fake classical Greek statues stand outside a night club in Nafplio, a former Byzantines, Frank, Venetian, and Ottoman coastal Peloponnese port town of 14,000 on the Argolic Gulf. The walls of this modern building seen near wasteland on the outskirts of town are made to look authentic but result in a false tourist style. There are three pieces of fake art that stand on well-watered grass: One of a nude Greek Goddess, a miniature lion in the middle and nearest the viewer is a naked figure of a man - muscular and classically posed as a heroic and mythical figure. Nafplio was also the first capital of independent Greece which was destroyed in the 7th Century for its alliance with Sparta. This contemporary landscape is therefore bears no resemblance to its heritage.

  • A young blonde girl of approximately 3 years-old stands on a lawn looking delighted. She giggles with great mirth at something that pleases her - possibly the way her father has posed her as if she's a ballerina, or maybe because it is her birthday and her present is the blue dress she is showing off to the viewer. The girl holds out her arms while holding a special pair of sunglasses. It is the summer of 1967 and this is a housing estate for British soldiers stationed in Bielefeld, Germany still during the Cold War. The girl's father is a solder serving in the British Army and the they all live in a house nearby with other expat families. Kodachrome film has a wonderful magenta colour cast in mid-tones and where a small light-leak has affected the far right, reminiscent of the classic days of early photography when shifts in color gave a faded look.
